Resecurity has identified a spike in malicious campaigns targeting Conversational AI platforms that leverage chatbots to provide automated, human-like interactions for consumers. Conversational AI platforms are designed to facilitate natural interactions between humans and machines using technologies like Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML). These platforms enable applications such as chatbots and virtual agents to engage in meaningful conversations, making them valuable tools across various industries. Financial institutions (FIs), telcos, healthcare and e-government are widely implementing such technologies to accelerate customer support and internal workflows, which may also trigger compliance and supply chain risks.?Many of such services are not fully transparent regarding data protection and data retention in place, operating as a 'black box', associated risks are not immediately visible.?That may explain why major tech companies restrict employee access to similar AI tools, particularly those provided by external sources, due to concerns that these services could take advantage of potentially proprietary data submitted to them. One of the key issues is unauthorized access to specific customer sessions. Many conversational AI platforms allow users to switch between an AI-assisted operator and a human. A bad actor could intercept the session and take control of the dialogue. By exploiting user trust in the AI platform, bad actors could trick victims into providing sensitive information or arrange certain actions (for example, confirming an OTP) that could be used in fraudulent schemes. Resecurity forecasts a variety of social engineering schemes that could be orchestrated by abusing and gaining access to trusted conversational AI platforms. Resecurity highlights the importance of a comprehensive AI trust, risk, security management (TRiSM) program to proactively ensure AI systems are compliant, fair, reliable and protect data privacy.?The EU AI Act and other regulatory frameworks in North America, China and India are already establishing regulations to manage the risks of AI applications.?For example, the recent PDPC AI Guidelines in Singapore already encourage businesses to be more transparent in seeking consent for personal data use through disclosure and notifications. Businesses have to ensure that AI systems are trustworthy, thereby providing consumers with confidence in how their personal data is used. https://lnkd.in/gihS-zD7 #ai #artificialintelligence #cyberrisks #cybersecurity #consumerprotection #compliance #cybercrime #darkweb #dataleak #dataprotection #dpo #databreach #euaiact #privacy #personaldataprotection #pii #pdpc #threatintelligence #riskintelligence #riskmanagement #trism

Resecurity was proud to contribute to a recent report by the UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) that covers new trends and dynamics in cyber-enabled fraud originating from Southeast Asia. This agency has an important mission to combat trafficking and the abuse of illicit drugs, prevent crime, and address issues related to criminal justice, international terrorism, and political corruption. We thank all contributors and experts for their efforts. The report includes information from our previous research related to leaks of identity information obtained via breaches of third-party organizations that collect this information for Know Your Customer (KYC) purposes. Key remarks: 1?? This issue remains one of the major product lines within underground data markets. This information is regularly exploited by transnational criminal actors for fraud, identity theft, impersonation scams, business email compromise (BEC), and KYC bypass and associated money laundering, among other activities. 2?? In recent years, there has also been an increase in the targeting and availability of stolen biometric information including fingerprints and facial data of victims of data breaches. This type of data is actively being utilized by transnational organized crime groups based in Southeast Asia, and can be used for forging documents, access manipulation, cyber-enabled fraud, money laundering, and other malicious purposes using deep fakes, machine learning protocols, and AI-driven methods for fraudulent purposes. 3?? There is strong evidence of underground data markets moving to Telegram and vendors actively looking to target transnational organized crime groups based in Southeast Asia. The proliferation of information-stealing malware and underground clouds of logs (UCL) services (explained below) against the backdrop of Southeast Asia’s booming criminal ecosystem has been central to this shift, exacerbating existing challenges relating to the region’s industrial-scale cyber-enabled fraud operations. 4?? The transnational organized crime threat landscape in Southeast Asia is evolving faster than in any previous point in history, driven by highly sophisticated syndicates and complex networks of money launderers, human traffickers, and a growing number of other service providers and facilitators around which organized crime have converged. https://lnkd.in/dY3izTgk #asean #bec #cybersecurity #cryptocurrency #corruption #cybercrime #counterfeit #crime #digitalidentity #deepfake #identitytheft #databreach #fraud #fraudprevention #frauddetection #organizedcrime #riskintelligence #riskmanagement #kyc #moneylaundering #scam #trafficking #threatintelligence

Resecurity highlights the importance of compliance with local data protection regulations to mitigate the negative consequences resulting from a data breach, including administrative and legal risks. Last week, on September 26, the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority Data Protection Office (DPO) took enforcement action against one of the QFC-licensed organizations for infringements of the QFC Data Protection Regulations. This notable action may confirm the increasing oversight on the industry by the State of Qatar, which highlights the importance of compliance with local regulations. According to the announcement by the regulators, the QFC DPO imposed a reprimand and financial penalty in the sum of US$150,000 on the QFC-licensed firm for infringements of Article 8 (Principle 6), Article 9, Article 29(1)(B) and (D), and Article 31(1) of the QFC Data Protection Regulations. Recent regulatory enforcement actions highlight the proactive approach taken by the government; therefore, enterprises must increase their focus on national cybersecurity regulations to remain compliant. https://lnkd.in/gpCfK5aT #cybersecurity #compliance #cyberrisks #consumerprotection #cyberthreatintelligence #databreach #dataleak #dataprotection #identityprotection #riskmanagement #qatar #gcc #mena

Resecurity was excited to participate in the expert session "AI and Cybersecurity: A Leadership Dialogue in the Americas" organized by the the Digi Americas Alliance in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The event was organized in light of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York. Shawn Loveland, COO of our team, participated in the event to discuss how the rapid progression of artificial intelligence (AI) is intensifying the ongoing competition between cyber defenders and adversaries. The dialogue enabled delegates to explore AI’s potential to enhance cybersecurity measures, identify associated risks, share best practices, and examine policy recommendations. It aimed to bring together leaders to develop innovative strategies for securing the region’s digital infrastructure while fostering technological advancement and economic growth. We thank the organizers and Belisario Contreras for their truly amazing organization of the event and their contributions to advancing cybersecurity efforts across the Americas. #ai #artificialintelligence #cybersecurity #cyberresilience #cyberthreatintelligence #cyberrisks #digitalrisks #compliance #riskmanagement #unga

Resecurity highlights the increase of nation-state activity targeting persons associated with U.S. political campaigns. Yesterday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released an advisory covering the activities of Iranian cyber actors targeting email accounts associated with the 2024 U.S. presidential election. The cyber actors working on behalf of the Iranian government's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) gain access to victims’ personal and business accounts using social engineering techniques, often impersonating professional contacts on email or messaging platforms, including: ? Impersonations of known individuals, associates, and/or family members; ? Impersonations of known email service providers regarding account settings; ? Requests from impersonation accounts of well-known journalists for interviews; ? Conference invitations; ? Speaking engagement requests; ? Embassy events; ? Foreign policy discussions/opinions and article reviews; and, ? Current US campaigns and elections. https://lnkd.in/grW7JzVy #cybersecurity #cyberespionage #cyberintelligence #elections #uselections #informationoperations #socialengineering #threatintelligence #irgc #iran
