关于我们
Plastic is the gold standard material for lab products. It is inexpensive, durable, versatile, and readily available. Every day, one scientist produces 8 pounds of plastic waste and together, they produce 12 billion pounds per year. Over 60% of lab plastic waste is disposed of in landfills or by incineration, rendering it useless. Despite its highly regulated nature, innovation in lab plastic waste management has been slow. There is a gap in communication between manufacturers, research institutions, and waste management companies. Research Recycling is an organization dedicated to engaging in dialogue and fostering collaboration amongst industry leaders to identify barriers, best practices, and opportunities to reduce lab plastic emissions. Join our network on LinkedIn, sign up for an interview or become an advisor. Together, we can inspire others and drive meaningful change. Visit www.researchrecycling.com to learn more!

Excited to share insights from Paul Zuechner and Lauren Everett ?? Yesterday we read a great article written by Paul and Lauren highlighting sustainable best practices that labs can adopt. They acknowledge the "unique challenges" that pharma leaders navigate as they implement greener alternatives and offer insider guidance to support! Here's what we learned ?? ??? Waste optimization: use reusable and recyclable materials even during logistics and transportation to reduce waste at the source, cutting environmental impact. ?? Circular economy: ensure materials and resources are continually reused in manufacturing, including transitioning to recyclable packaging and adopting sustainable bio-based single-use devices. ?? Supply chain sustainability: foster transparency and ethical standards with suppliers, integrate sustainability commitments into contracts, and require certifications for ethically sourced materials. ?? Environmental impact tracking: use life cycle assessments to identify high-impact areas within production processes, providing opportunities for waste reduction and energy savings. It was a great read! Big thank you to Lauren and Paul for sharing! We are excited for our upcoming online roundtable, Servicing #Labs and #Recycling Models for #Medical #Plastics, part of a series on #Partnerships Enabling #Innovations in #Sustainability, on 12/10 from 10:30am-12:00 pm. This event is co-presented by ACTION Innovation Network and UMass Lowell Innovation Hub. We rely heavily on plastics in laboratories, which provide the benefits of sterility, safety, durability and quality for the healthcare industry. However, single-use plastics often come with significant environmental consequences.?Only a fraction of the plastic waste is recycled, much of which is uncontaminated and recyclable. Recycling medical plastic waste is possible if properly coordinated between the healthcare and recycling industries. Hear how Polycarbin, GreenLabs Recycling, Research Recycling , Republic Services New England, and MassRecycle address the medical plastics waste problem using #sustainable and #circular practices. The roundtable will discuss Massachusetts #waste bans and the importance of #collaborations for enabling sustainable innovations in recycling medical plastics from labs. Companies will provide information on quantifying and reporting lab waste and giving second life to single use plastics by integrating recycled materials back into manufacturing supply chains. Pilots and partnerships that companies have developed to drive sustainable innovation will be discussed.
