San José State deserves better. State leaders in Sacramento are considering millions of dollars in budget cuts to SJSU—cuts that will impact how we best support our students, faculty, and staff. But San José State is the epicenter of the future, driving the innovation, creativity, and talent that power California’s economy. We won’t stand by while that progress is put at risk. That’s why President Cynthia Teniente-Matson was in Sacramento yesterday—ensuring our legislators hear us loud and clear. SJSU has always been a place of firsts, shaping industries, pioneering breakthroughs, and preparing students for global impact. Last week, San José State University College of Humanities and the Arts took to Capitol Hill for National Humanities Advocacy Day, working among 233 total advocates from 45 states to champion federal support for the humanities. Dean Shannon Miller, Prof. Katherine D. Harris, Ph.D., and Prof. Janet Stemwedel represented the CSU system, meeting with legislators to highlight the critical role of the humanities in education, research, and public engagement. ?? ?? SJSU MetCS + Pacific Gas and Electric Company = A long-term partnership advancing Fire Weather Research! ?? With wildfires becoming more intense—like the recent Los Angeles wildfires—understanding fire weather is more critical than ever. That’s why MetCS Department Chair Craig Clements and Professor Adam Kochanski have had their $400K grant from PG&E renewed as they continue to advance Fire Weather Modeling Research. This research will enhance fire behavior predictions, helping first responders and communities stay ahead of wildfire threats.
