This month we speak with ORSC Associate Director of Science & Security Brandon Norwat, who came to OVPR after more than a quarter century in law enforcement, including 22 years as an FBI special agent. He tells us what he admires about his colleagues and how his prior jobs helped prepare him for his current role (and if you ask him yourself, he’s happy to share some stories from his days as a SWAT team operator and hostage negotiator). https://bit.ly/3AXusq4

While this practice limits the number of applications the federal agency has to review, it’s undermining the advancement of U.S. research, the authors argue. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gxWHVBnq

A new report from the Bureau of Business Research (BBR) at the IC2 Institute examines the economic impact of advanced #nuclear energy in Texas: https://lnkd.in/gccyD26e The report considers both the manufacture and deployment of small modular reactors in Texas over a 30-year period, and predicts future GDP, income, and employment growth. The report also examines Texas supply chain and workforce potential and calculates the cost reduction (incentives) necessary to make new nuclear energy competitive under current market conditions. Part of a larger report commissioned by the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the BBR report emerges as the interest in nuclear energy continues to pick up steam. Authors of the BBR impact study include: Bruce Kellison, Matt Kammer-Kerwick, Jim Jarrett, Brian Lewandowski, Rob Kasten, Joshua Rhodes, PhD, Michael E. Webber, Brandon Bloom, Jackson Edgar. #EconomicImpact #EnergyTransition
