Republic Services and REBUILDING TOGETHER SACRAMENTO joined forces to transform the Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank (OVFOFB). The efforts included building a custom farm stand, installing a permanent shade structure for food storage and creating an educational area for Farm Camp. This impactful project was made possible through a National Neighborhood Promise? grant from the Republic Services Charitable Foundation. We’re thankful for community partnerships and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the communities we serve. #SustainabilityinAction

Landfills are engineering marvels, and our team continues to develop innovative ways to make our operations even more sustainable. Through a process known as phyto-utilization, we’re using trees and grasses to naturally manage leachate, the liquid that results from precipitation percolating through landfill waste. This not only lowers our carbon footprint, but it promotes biodiversity and saves costs. Since their inception, our five phyto-utilization projects have beneficially used more than 80 million gallons of leachate to feed trees and grasses, and this vegetation has sequestered nearly 3,000 tons of CO2. Republic Services hosted a volunteer day alongside Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte to improve a local gathering space. A team of volunteers rolled up their sleeves to paint a vibrant mural, create a pollinator garden, build park benches and clean up a park. Through a 2024 National Neighborhood Promise? grant, this transformation highlighted the strength of collaboration and the change we can achieve when joining efforts with local partners. #SustainaibilityinAction #Community #GivingBack

Leaders from Republic Services, Blue Polymers and the City of Buckeye broke ground on a Blue Polymers recycled plastics production facility in Buckeye, Arizona, which will support sustainable packaging manufacturing throughout the Western United States. When the Buckeye facility opens next year, it will process polyolefins from Republic’s Las Vegas Polymer Center, enabling greater circularity for HDPE and polypropylene packaging.
