Repped In Tech?

I very seldom get nervous when I’m talking through something I’m passionate about. But I did tonight! ?? And that’s ok! Nobody is perfect. I didn’t share my screen properly in my pitch presentation to the NBIC and I got the grant name wrong, but I got through it and learned so much! (I’ll post the link to the pitch in the comments) I am so grateful for programs like these! Due to going back to the basics, Autism Possible? (Repped In Tech?) was able to secure a $300k reimbursement grant through the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. Through this grant, Repped In Tech? will provide a similar program that helped me when I was laid off 6 years ago and had to apply for food assistance for my family. Now, I get to return the favor to 80 goal-oriented, diverse technologists who have been impacted by unemployment. Talk about full circle moment. At Nashville Software School, in the evening web development program, we run a simulated work experience that’s taking our students’ skills to the next level. What started as an internal hackathon has evolved into a powerful hands-on learning environment where Front-End and Back-End cohorts come together to engineer real projects. For our Front-End cohort, React is their second technology, building on the fundamentals they’ve already learned. This isn’t just another coding exercise. Our students dive deep into how things work on the job, learning as they collaborate on real-world projects. Here’s what sets this experience apart: ?? Overcoming the fear of asking for help: We create a safe, supportive space where students gain confidence and realize that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness—especially when learning new tech. ?? Simulating a real dev team: Students work cross-functionally with scrum and product roles, experiencing the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) just like they would in the industry. ?? Hands-on engineering: They write and deploy API docs, manage authentication with Firebase Auth, and tackle complex end-to-end solutions. The experience isn’t just academic—it’s as real as it gets. ?? Real teamwork: From Front-End to Back-End, students learn to bridge the gaps between disciplines and collaborate like seasoned developers. The outcomes? ?? Nothing short of impressive. This approach is essential to the success of junior engineers, preparing them with the tools, mindset, and real-world experience needed to thrive in their first roles.
