Female Finance talent in DACH? ? As we mark International Women’s Day this week, it’s a moment to reflect. And from my experience, working actively in private equity, technology, and technology-enabled businesses across the DACH region, one thing is clear—the representation of female CFOs and senior finance leaders in this domain is disappointingly low. Whilst board-level representation has improved, and we should celebrate that progress. Germany’s DAX 40 now has 25.4% female executives, up from just 13.3% in 2020. In Switzerland’s SMI companies, it’s 28%. In Austria’s top firms, it’s only 10%. When it comes to CFOs, the numbers are still too low. So why is this the case? ?? Is it the subject matter? Are careers in corporate finance just less attractive to females? ?? Is it the path itself? The traditional routes—corporate finance, Big Four, audit—have long been male-dominated. Is that still shaping the outcome today? ?? Is it work-life balance? Leadership roles still demand full availability, travel, and long hours—does that make the CFO role less viable for some? ? These are questions we’re asking every day. At Renovata, we see this gap acutely and we constantly strive to do more in this space and are being successful with it for sure, but its challenging. So why is this still the case? And more importantly what else can search firms, including mine, be doing to help solve this complex situation? ? It’s no surprise the data shows a notable increase in female fractional leaders utilising this route as a solution to this problem. Senior leaders—especially women—shouldn’t have to choose between career progression and flexibility.?
