Dream It Do It is an important part of the WNY Manufacturing Community - the team at Renold Ajax are happy to support local area students who are interested in manufacturing!
Thank you to Scott Clark, from Renold Ajax for leading P-TECH WNY students through an Industry Challenge (a real-life challenge faced in advanced manufacturing that students work to solve.) Mr. Clark gave a short lesson on the Lean principle of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and then challenged students to use this tool to find solutions for reducing the time it takes to manufacture and ship a product. The challenge required brainstorming, ideation, perseverance and the ability to ask the right questions to resolve ambiguity. The City of Jamestown, New York, is all in on manufacturing, with 14 percent of area adults working in the field. But as those workers retire, are there enough replacements in the pipeline to keep the plants humming? It’s a question we find locals raising as we “Focus On” Jamestown, in Western New York State: https://lnkd.in/eqecEreY “When we poll our members, it is currently the largest, most significant challenge they’re having,” says Todd Tranum, executive director of the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier and president of Dream It Do It WNY. “Some companies have opportunities to grow, but their growth is limited by the fact that they can’t find the people they need to fill these positions. “Western New York has not had an enormous amount of population growth,” he adds. “We’re looking at the demographics and we’re realizing at some point those baby boomers are going to exit our workforces.” Adds Mayor Kimberly Ecklund: “We need to really educate people. ...
