In this snapshot, I’m hanging out with George Offenhauser, one of the most influential metalsmiths in Houston. You might be wondering what that has to do with Renfrow+Co, and the answer is “Everything!” George was my boss back in my second gig post-college. You can tell he rubbed off on me because we’re practically wearing the same outfit! George taught me how to tackle large-scale and prestigious projects. The things I learned from him greatly impacted the beginnings of Renfrow+Co. TBG Partners Austin office contacted us with this concept entryway monument for a new residential community in Celina, Texas (near Dallas). Through the early development effort, we were introduced to Tellus Group, who is leading the development of Mosaic. The installation of the entryway monument required a plan as custom as the piece itself. The highlight? A lifting assembly we engineered ourselves to safely transport and install -- watch it come together in this clip. #houstonbusiness #houstonconstruction #metalshop #metalfabrication

Rice University's redesigned Academic Quad recently opened to students and staff. In conjunction with Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, B&D Landscape Contractors and Rice University, we fabricated two trellises for the space that provide seating/studying areas for students. The structure of each trellis features ultra-square corners for an elevated feel. Check them out the next time you're on campus. We’ve worked with Howard Hughes Holdings Inc., developer of Bridgeland, on many projects over the years, and we always look forward to what the renowned developer has for us next. The concept of a large community space was brought to our team by SWA, the landscape architect chosen for the project, during the pre-construction phase. The highlight of the space? A 2D drawing of a butterfly sculpture they hoped to include in the plans. The dream of the butterfly was transformed into a stainless steel, dichroic acrylic sculpture that is a fully functioning piece of fine art, capable of spinning in place. The acrylic inserts change color with shifts in sunlight and sculpture movement, creating a dynamic experience for spectators.
