We’ve worked with Howard Hughes Holdings Inc., developer of Bridgeland, on many projects over the years, and we always look forward to what the renowned developer has for us next. The concept of a large community space was brought to our team by SWA, the landscape architect chosen for the project, during the pre-construction phase. The highlight of the space? A 2D drawing of a butterfly sculpture they hoped to include in the plans. The dream of the butterfly was transformed into a stainless steel, dichroic acrylic sculpture that is a fully functioning piece of fine art, capable of spinning in place. The acrylic inserts change color with shifts in sunlight and sculpture movement, creating a dynamic experience for spectators. Goodnight Hospitality opened Goodnight Charlie’s as a hotspot for country artists, whiskey lovers, and taco enthusiasts. We partnered with the Houston-based hospitality group to create Corten planters and edging for Goodnight Charlie’s, and we had a fantastic experience working with their team. By late 2022, Goodnight Hospitality decided to take the space in a new direction, opening a new concept that blended the best of London and Houston; we were stoked to be asked back to partner with them on the new concept's design, which featured bronze everywhere—from doors to bar shelving to foot rails across the bar floor. We took their initial mockups and developed a fully engineered plan to meet their needs. The final result was a stunning modular brass shelving system with integrated lighting and a patina finish to ensure longevity. We selected and sourced the finest materials to match the restaurant’s high standards. Additionally, we created planters for the entrance and outdoor seating area so guests can enjoy Montrose views while waiting. Work continues with B&D Landscape Contractors at Creekside, where we're constructing two new buildings as part of a larger residential community rec center. The structures were built with Douglas Fir timber and brackets custom fabricated in our shop. We also fabricated timber piles for playground elements that will create the legs and feet of an alligator play structure and swamp. Our collaboration with Toca Madera began with Protolab, where we crafted an initial design based on plans and photos from their Las Vegas location. The unique concept of the structure captivated us, and we worked for a chance to take part in bringing it to life. The detailed plans outlined the design, but its complexity required us to think beyond our usual linear approach. The egg-shaped structure, composed of thousands of feet of curved, laser-cut aluminum tubing, needed precise weaving. Each piece had to be precise, but the organic design required our team to freehand many elements. As team member Christian Carter notes, “There is a point where drawings and data can only take you so far, and artistry has to take it from there.” The result is a beautiful woven structure where customers can dine and relax. "The favorite Renfrow+Co project that I've been a part of is Greens Road. It's typically an area people avoid because of crime, but it's a public space that is curently being beautified. It's been cool to be part of that effort for projects all over the Houston area. I love getting to see public areas get cleaned up after being in decline for decades.
