This week, Renewell's Director of Government Relations Evan Taranta testified in support of HB 361 in New Mexico sponsored by Representative Andrea Romero. This bill would allow for the regulation of wells repurposed for energy storage. HB 361 passed out of the House Energy Committee and will continue to move through the legislature! https://lnkd.in/gjPH6DEE

New/next/first is the ethos that drives so much of our economy. So its nice to find cases for re-use of industrial infrastructure—not surprising that they would come from the renewables space. A thirst for fossil fuels has left North America with 2.6 million idle oil and gas wells. These empty wells are a massive financial and environmental risk for businesses, municipalities, and the environment. Enter solutions like Renewell Energy's gravity wells: when retrofitted, existing oil or gas wells become renewable energy storage which shores up our grid and generates revenue for the well owner, turning a liability back into an asset. (Plus, their site rocks a Shakespeare pun…) Or look at Fervo Energy, tapping existing wells for geothermal energy which is converted into electricity. Since their conversion relies in part on current drilling technology, Fervo can leverage the skills of our current oil and gas workforce, meaning quicker up-skilling and job retention/creation. At ad agencies, we had our definition of "cool clients" we wanted to work for. In light of where things are today, this is some of the coolest sh*t out there, folks. ??

Kern Economic Development Corporation hosted its annual Energy Summit last week, and Renewell's CEO Kemp Gregory participated in the Renewable Energy panel alongside leaders in the field from SoCalGas, Hydrostor, and Kern Energy CA. This week Renewell CEO Kemp Gregory testified in the CA Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee in support of SB 1433, authored by Senator Monique Limon. SB 1433 would create a pilot program for gravity based energy storage in the state. We’re thrilled to see this repurposing concept catching on in the legislature and gaining the support of key allies in the environmental and environmental justice communities. Next up – the Senate Committee on Environmental Quality!?
