The transportation of wind turbine components from the Port of Ngqura to the Umsobomvu Wind Farm, located on the border of the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces, is currently in progress. This significant logistical operation involves moving 81-metre-long turbine blades, tower sections, nacelles, hubs and other components over a distance of 550 kilometres via the regional highways. https://lnkd.in/dv-7qzgU #windturbines #turbinecomponents #wind #power South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) Nordex Energy South Africa Nordex Group Envusa Energy David Moncasi Hortet

Improving access to quality early childhood education is crucial for laying the foundation for lifelong learning, particularly in underprivileged areas. To address this need, 18 Early Childhood Development (ECD) Practitioners from the Saldanha Bay Municipality in the Western Cape, have successfully completed the accredited ECD Qualification (NQF Level 4) programme, impacting nearly 900 children. Funded by Umoya Energy, this initiative is part of an ongoing commitment to improving early childhood education, ensuring that young children are better equipped for formal schooling and future success. https://lnkd.in/d3666Ccy #supportingeducation #earlychildhoodeducation #practitionergraduation South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) EIMS Africa

If you haven't yet joined, be sure to log into today's session of Creamer Media Webinar, which is currently underway. The session is unpacking the findings of South Africa's Renewable Energy Investment Report Card and a diving into the future of our renewable energy landscape. While we've been enjoying improved energy availability over the last few months, the urgency to decarbonise our energy generation remains crucial in the face of ongoing climate change challenges. ? The panel of experts includes NOA's CEO Karel Cornelissen, IPPO head Bernard Magoro, and SAIPPA chairperson Brian Day will address critical questions including: ? Expect to hear: ·????What percentage of South Africa’s electricity is currently generated by wind and solar? ·????How does the projected growth of renewables in SA compare globally? ·????What challenges are holding back renewable energy projects? ·????Is the policy framework for private electricity wheeling effective? ·????How can we improve our transmission and distribution infrastructure? ·????What steps are needed to develop SA's renewable energy value chain? THE DELTA4000 IS HERE! We’re excited to announce the arrival of the first major component of our #Delta4000 technology in the Eastern Cape! The impressive 75-tonne nacelles, a crucial part of our advanced wind turbines, have now reached South African shores and are en route to our cluster of wind farms located on the border of the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape. This delivery marks the debut of the Delta 4000 platform not only in South Africa but across the continent. As the first company to launch a turbine platform with a flexible rating as part of its core design philosophy and operational strategy, we are proud to lead the way in innovative wind technology. This design approach, combined with a variety of operating modes, allows the turbine to adapt seamlessly to the grid operator’s requirements and local wind conditions. It's encouraging to see Honourable MEC Nonkqubela Pieters recognising Nordex Energy SA as a leading employer and a key driver of economic development in the Eastern Cape, as highlighted in her 2024-2025 policy speech. In a region facing significant unemployment challenges, this recognition underscores the substantial impact of our initiatives in creating essential job opportunities and fostering economic growth. The MEC specifically acknowledged Nordex’s contributions, stating, “We are pleased to note that Nordex Energy South Africa will locally manufacture concrete tower sections in Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape. The construction of the plant is already underway, stimulating the local economy and fostering growth in the local supply chain through increased demand for raw materials and related goods and services, benefiting local businesses and suppliers. The factory will create approximately 200 jobs during construction and employ around 350 people once manufacturing begins.” In the past year, the province has seen three wind farm projects progress to full construction, adding 293 megawatts to the grid in 2024 and 2025, with an investment value of R6.1 billion. These projects have created an additional 2,000 job opportunities during the construction phase. With these developments, the Eastern Cape will soon have a total installed capacity of 1,802 megawatts from wind and solar farms, marking the first time the province will produce more electricity than it consumes during periods of wind and sun. Congratulations to the Presidential Climate Commission and Crispian Olver. This week, our President signed the Climate Change Bill into law, marking the first legislation in South Africa specifically aimed at addressing climate change. This landmark bill outlines a national climate change response, including mitigation and adaptation actions, and represents SA's fair contribution to the global climate change efforts. We are one of 190 members of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change who are party to the Paris Agreement (signed 2016). The PCC was established and chaired by Ramaphosa but powered by commissioners such as Barbara Creecy D, ?Valli Moosa and various other ministers. ?https://lnkd.in/dU6dzBav WWF Presidential Climate Commission Kgosientsho Ramokgopa Lungisa Fuzile Mbali Baduza Shamini Harrington Melissa Fourie Joanne Bate Louise Naudé Bobby Peek @ ?

Renewable Energy Sector Update It would seem that Eskom's attempt to reserve grid capacity in constrained areas exclusively for state-procured renewable energy projects has been thwarted by Nersa’s sub-committee - just days after the state utilities application to the energy regulator. The industry will undoubtedly welcome the sub-committee's unanimous recommendation to reject this application. Had it gone ahead, it would have been to the detriment of projects contracted by private sector entities within the renewable energy sector, preventing fair access to the grid. This could halt South Africa's journey towards a liberalised energy system and possibly hinder intensive power users, such as the #mining sector, from achieving their carbon reduction targets – with significant knock-on effects on our economy. The meeting was attended by all regulator members, and it appears likely that the sub-committee's recommendation will be supported by the full regulator board. https://lnkd.in/dhJyGExd #RenewableEnergy #GridAccess #EnergyPolicy #PrivateSector #mining NERSA - RSA Energy Intensive Users Group of Southern Africa Discovery Limited Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM) Mark Swilling Francis Jackson Terence Creamer Mining Weekly NOA

Primary school learners from the Witzenburg area recently enjoyed an educational programme celebrating Global Wind Day. Held at Morrisdale Primary School and Mooi Uitsig Primary School, this event aimed to increase awareness about the significance of wind energy and its vital role in combating climate change. Astrid Booysen, a teacher from Mooi Uitsig Primary school, expressed her gratitude, saying, “We are grateful to the wind farm for involving our learners in such a special way. We are proud to share that our learners gained remarkable experiences through this programme. They thoroughly enjoyed the activities, especially working in mixed groups with various devices at their tables. The challenge of making and decorating their fans filled them with excitement and pride. This experience has left a lasting impact on their hearts.” Funded as part of the Perdekraal East Wind Farm’s education programme, this initiative specifically targeted Grade 3 learners, encouraging them to explore the potential of wind energy through creative expression. As part of the festivities, the learners engaged in an exciting art project where they crafted and decorated pinwheels, symbolising the power and beauty of wind.
