We are thrilled to share that Renesas was awarded the highest “Gold” rating on the PRIDE Index for three consecutive years! The index, established by work with Pride in 2016, evaluates workplace initiatives for LGBTQ+ and other sexual minorities within companies and organizations in Japan. Its mission is to create inclusive and accommodating workplaces through five key areas: Policy (Action Statement), Inspiration (Educational Activities), Development (Personnel Systems/Programs), and Engagement/Empowerment (Social Contribution/External Activities). The Gold rating indicates that Renesas has met the standards for all five criteria defined by the index. Hiroshi Karasawa, Sr. Manager, Procurement/Purchasing and a leading member of Diversity Promotion Group in Japan, and Alex Hutchins, Sustainability Promotion Specialist, attended work with Pride 2024 Conference in Tokyo to receive the award on behalf of Renesas. “As a global company, Renesas has the opportunity to set a benchmark for inclusivity, and in turn create a ripple effect in Japanese society. Next up in our series, we are thrilled to spotlight Megumi Iwadare, Senior Director of Sales at Renesas Electronics! Megumi was born in Japan and grew up in Japan and Canada. Her sales career began after graduating from the University of British Colombia and returning to Japan. Leveraging her international work experience, Megumi leads a global team responsible for Renesas’ strategic accounts in Automotive, Industrial, IoT and Infrastructure segments. Her passion for solving customers’ problems and result-oriented mindset have added significant value to Renesas. As a working parent, she is dedicated to taking care of her two children, while giving 100% to her team and contributing to an inclusive work environment at work. ? What do you love about your role? I was assigned to the semiconductor sales group at my first company and continued to advance my career for the past 20 years. I had no idea what a semiconductor was back then! I love my job and enjoy communicating with people who work across disciplines and solving problems together. I’d compare sales to being a business creator, a movie director and a conductor of orchestra at the same time. We generate revenue for the company, direct operations, and bring all parties together to achieve the desired outcome. ? Have you had role models who have influenced your professional journey? I met my mentor, my current boss, after returning to work from maternity leave. He helped me understand what makes a great salesperson. Previously I had been very operational, blindly passing on customer requests to my company without understanding the bigger picture of success or the desired outcome. With my mentor’s guidance and thanks to unique opportunities I’ve had as a result, I’ve become more assertive, learned how to lead focused discussions, and be fully accountable for my customers and business results. There is more to learn, and I’m excited about the challenges ahead. ? What advice would you give to women aspiring to take on a leadership role? Gender really shouldn’t matter when selecting a leader. I never focus on the fact that I’m a woman. It could be challenging at times when I experience different behaviors from customers or male colleagues. I feel under constant pressure to outperform to prove my worth. I try to look at this positively as I am also building my professional skills and credibility. I continue to do my best and hope that my behavior can inspire other women. ? What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Luckily, since my children have become more independent, I can focus on enriching my personal life. Over the past four years, I’ve been in a gospel choir and singing twice a month, which fills my heart with positiveness and power. I also feel energized by going to the gym and playing golf.
