Yesterday, we launched Remy - the chatbot that's seen every video on YouTube. TLDR: Remy searches over billions of videos to build you custom playlists on any topic, finding exactly what you want to watch - and nothing you don't. Remy is the culmination of the last year’s work that we’ve done in the video search space. The internet is filled with incredible video content, but finding the exact moments you're looking for can feel impossible. Typical video search currently falls into one of two categories: 1. Searching short-form video content - Search TikTok or YouTube Shorts for clips made by creators. - Settle for recommended clips that don't quite match what you need. - Get filtered back into?the algorithm. 2. Manually looking through long-form videos - Open ten tabs with the top results on YouTube. - Waste time scrubbing through long videos looking for the moments you want. - Miss valuable insights buried in obscure content. - Give up searching altogether. We built Remy to solve this. Instead of treating videos as single units, Remy understands what's happening inside every second of a video. It's like having a brilliant research assistant who's watched everything on the internet and can find the exact moments you care about. Think of all the knowledge trapped in hour-long podcasts, conference talks, interviews, and tutorials. Some of you might remember the launch of Instaclass (rip) a few months ago. Though the focus was the ‘class’ component, the foundation for everything in it came from the video content we surfaced. My own personal use eventually completely devolved into me using Instaclass as a way to find a bunch of cool videos on topics that I could just easily binge. It would often find incredible content that I would never have found on my own - but there was always way too much. I typically only cared about the few best, most relevant minutes across several hours of content, so started building something to extract the best clips for my search from these longer videos. This was the basis of the search that would become Remy. It's far from perfect but it's getting better every day.
