A patient called 9-1-1 complaining of chest pain that had woken him up from his sleep. Paramedic Jack and AEMT Easperee arrived at the patient's location within four minutes of receiving the call. They quickly recognized the signs of a serious heart attack and immediately began administering medication to stabilize the patient. They transported to Northern Nevada Medical Center - Sierra (NNMC), arriving in just six minutes. Thanks to their fast and appropriate response, the NNMC team was able to step in and provide critical treatment right away. From the time Jack and Easperee arrived at the patient’s door to the completion of the life-saving procedure at the hospital, only 79 minutes had passed—a remarkable effort by everyone involved. Thank you to Jack, Easperee, and the entire medical crew for their swift action and teamwork in saving this patient’s life! ????

At 2 pm on September 7, a wildfire broke out near the Davis Creek Regional Park located 20 miles south of Reno. Several agencies responded, including Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, and Carson Fire Department. I 580 closed in both directions from Mount Rose Highway to Carson City; the fire had spread 500 acres and continued to grow. Evacuations were ordered, and people began packing their belongings and animals and leaving their homes. Within 24 hours of the fire starting, 1,500 acres had burned, and six structures were lost. On September 8, Governor Lombardo declared a State of Emergency in response to the Davis Fire. Resources from local, state and federal organizations came to assist those who’d been evacuated from their homes, animals who needed to be taken to a shelter and patients in assisted living facilities who needed safe transport. Individuals came together in the service of the community to care for one another, whether it meant opening their home to a friend who’d been evacuated or donating supplies to shelters and first responders. Our resilient community, once again, rallied to support one another while waiting for the fire to be 100% contained. To the fire and law enforcement first responders who worked overtime, put themselves in unpredictable and dangerous conditions to protect our homes and businesses, we are grateful for your tenacity and dedication. To our REMSA Health team, your commitment to supporting your co-response colleagues, as well as continuing to provide patients with skilled care, kindness and compassion during the Davis Fire was truly commendable. We are deeply grateful for your hard work and extra hours to contribute to the safety and well-being of our community. We also commend those who volunteered their time to collect donations and supplies to be distributed to the first responders on the front lines of the fire. The first responder community always comes together #WhenItMattersMost and the efforts from everyone involved with keeping Northern Nevada safe during the Davis Fire are a true example of that. Today, the fire is at 92% containment and it expected to be fully contained. In addition to continuing to dispatch its emergency medical resources throughout Washoe County, REMSA Health began dispatching fire and medical resources for Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District in 2021. Then earlier this year, REMSA Health’s Communications Department earned the distinction of Washoe County’s first and only emergency fire dispatch (EFD) Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE). This distinction is a credit to the high-performing culture of excellence within the REMSA Health dispatch division. Their commitment, along with the dedication of TMFPD, means that a level of emergency fire dispatch service never before offered in Washoe County is now available.

National EMS Memorial Bike Ride honors Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel by organizing long-distance cycling events that memorialize and celebrate the lives of those who serve every day, those who have fallen ill or been injured while on duty, or have died in the line of service. This morning, our team was deeply humbled to remember Ed Pricola, Ryan Watson, and Scott Walton as this year’s honorees. We continue to pay tribute to their service to our community and their ultimate sacrifice in the name of care. Thank you, National EMS Memorial Bike Ride, for your commitment to recognizing and celebrating EMS professionals!
