/ Join us, Greenpeace and WaterBear Network in taking a Stand With Nature to protect our parks, forests and the people who preserve them for generations to come. 🌱 Help us reach one million people against deforestation—where trees fall daily for timber, profit, and short-term gain-which remains the greatest threat to the people who protect our parks and forests. 🌲 📢 Repost this and sign up to take action at: https://lnkd.in/gpZGy-ED Why now? The road to COP30 The possibility that the Amazon forest system could soon reach a tipping point, inducing large-scale collapse, has raised global concern. This November at COP30, political leaders, surrounded by corporate lobbyists, will meet in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, to decide the future of the planet. Join us in demanding that they respect and protect our future. Communities across the Amazon, in the forest and in cities, are standing on the frontlines, pushing back these destroyers. They are demanding respect and justice, offering real solutions. They are asking for economic alternatives that allow them to thrive without harming the forest. You can stand with them. When we stand together, we stand stronger than the corporations destroying the Amazon rainforest and forests around the world.

Uniting changemakers in the fight for human rights and climate justice in the clothing industry. Take action ⬇️
关于我们
Today, our clothes are disposable and cheap, while the human and environmental costs required to make them are tremendous. For the millions of mostly 18 to 24-year-old women (who represent 80% of the fashion supply chain), these jobs can be the best first step out of poverty. Yet the industry is rife with low wages, inadequate worker protections, unsafe conditions, and unrest. The current system needs a remake, and we are here to do just that. Our mission is to build a conscious consumer movement. Remake tells stories that bring shoppers, brands, and makers into a movement to shape the fashion industry’s relationship with the millions of people in its supply chain. When we know their stories, we can use our collective voice and shopping dollars to improve and shape the lives of people who make our clothes.

On Saturday, Mohiuddin Rubel (মহিউদ্দিন রুবেল), a former director at the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, called an American reporter in a panic. He had been pouring over President Donald Trump’s April 2 executive order directing the federal government to impose so-called “reciprocal” tariffs on all imports to the United States, including a 37 percent hit on those originating from Bangladesh. That figure alone would be bad enough. But Rubel, an additional managing director at Denim Expert, a jeans manufacturer, also pointed out a clause under the section on implementation: “The rates of duty established by this order are in addition to any other duties, fees, taxes, exactions or charges applicable to such imported articles,” except as otherwise provided in subsections relating to Canada and Mexico. The South Asian nation’s goods are already subject to U.S. tariffs, including a 15.6 percent duty on apparel. An additional 37 percent hike would mean a tariff of of nearly 53 percent, on par with the 54 percent being levied on China—that is, unless Trump makes good on his most recent threat to slap another 50 percent in import taxes on the superpower if it doesn’t withdraw its own 34 percent increase. For the world’s second-largest—or third-largest, depending on how Vietnam is doing—exporter of garments after China, this would be an impossible burden to bear. The United States, its third-biggest trading partner after China and India, imported $8.4 billion worth of goods in 2024 alone, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. And despite existing tariffs, Bangladesh is the third-largest supplier of clothing after China and Vietnam to the United States. The new presidential calculus could change that status dramatically. Emissions, decarbonisation, hypocrisy and fashion! This is an interesting read from The Business of Fashion and Bloomberg: 'Zara Owner Inditex’s Transport Emissions Balloon to Record Highs': https://lnkd.in/dqfimAH7. In addition to this, in one of our forthcoming research papers, we analysed the top 20 fashion brands by revenue and found that the only scenario in which fashion brands could reduce their carbon emissions by 2030 would be if the power grids of the sourcing countries in which their production takes place decarbonised by a factor of four, or 400%, from their 2021 levels, while at the same time the brands did not increase their production volumes by more than 50%, in contrast to the target of some brands to double their production volumes. This means that not only will national electricity grids, often in low and middle income countries, need to be radically and rapidly decarbonised, but the brands' targets for increased production volumes will need to be sharply curtailed if there is to be any hope of reducing carbon emissions from current levels. The study will be published soon and my co-authors are Dr Heletjé van Staden (Assistant Professor, University College Dublin), Dr Fabiola Schneider (Assistant Professor, University College Dublin) and Prof Donna Marshall (Professor, University College Dublin). In terms of just transition, the conversation is just beginning in the fashion industry and we do not see or have evidence that the fashion industry is talking about a just transition approach to decarbonisation, while current conversations often neglect the justice principles. Stay in touch to join the conversation. #Emissions #decarbonisation #hypocrisy #fashion #luxury #business #climatechange #climateemergency #justice #justtransition #inditex #fossilfuels #phaseout

/ Lock arms with us and United Nations EP globally to celebrate #ZeroWasteDay coming this Sunday-make a commitment to go 90 days with #NoNewClothes 🦋 Humanity’s current patterns of unsustainable textile production and consumption are contributing to the triple planetary crisis: the crisis of climate change, the crisis of nature, land and biodiversity loss, and the crisis of pollution and waste. When we resist the fashion industry’s tactics to manipulate us into buying more we can band together and have enormous impact. By pressing pause on the purchase of new clothing, reflecting on ways to address overproduction, and holding corporations accountable for their actions, we take the first step in our journey to remake the fashion industry for good. Are you in? Sign up we'll track our collective impact: https://lnkd.in/gWBh8XNg #beatwastepollution #slowfashion #sustainablefashion

"The new guard of trash designers place themselves within the timely conversation on the future of fashion, but they also are having more fun than they could anywhere else. San Francisco’s lack of fashion cred means designers here can be more playful and operate outside the glare of critics’ eyes. There can be greater creativity, less commitment to regular collections, and more interactive events blasted all over social media. The same week Slocum debuted her Neverend line, the Ferry Building was taken over by local nonprofit Remake for a sustainable fashion show called Walk Your Values. It featured the colorful, texturally rich clothes from Gathered Cloths, an upcycling textile project by Fafafoom Studio, among others. Former fashion blogger and designer Mira Musank is the visionary behind Gathered Cloths, a project she launched in 2021." https://lnkd.in/gCVcBGkH
