Day 2 of RSA Conference 2024! In the words of Hugh Thompson, Ph.D. "it is a celebration of innovation in cybersecurity; and no other industry relies on innovation more than ours." It was great to interact with 60 fellow cybersecurity innovators during the Early Stage Expo, catch up with some friendly faces, and make new connections! Congrats to Nathan Burke and the entire Nagomi Security team for their stellar presence here! I am also looking forward to exploring all the great products that I heard about from Laura Smith and Facundo Lopez Juncal at Strike, Andy Schwaderer at Quantum Knight, Cristina Roa and Keith Bowie at SessionGuardian, and Mike LeBeau at TestifySec!

Great to be in San Francisco this week for the RSA Conference 2024! We had a very strong start yesterday with an oversubscribed session on the state of VC in cybersecurity (pun intended ?? ), followed by the highlight I had been looking for - the RSAC Sandbox contest for fellow cyber startups. Dave DeWalt, Mark H., Yoav Leitersdorf, Chenxi Wang, Ph.D., and Nadav Zafrir injected some optimism into the crowd about the next 12 months of financing for solutions that drive efficiency and help security teams streamline their operations. They also expected to see growth and new disruptors in the space of identity and, naturally, AI (we did not get to say AI a 100 times though). In the RSAC Sandbox Reality Defender shone bright - congrats to Ben Colman for an amazing pitch! The competition was, nevertheless, fierce. All 9 other companies deserve the highest praise: Aembit, Antimatter, Bedrock Security, Dropzone AI, Harmonic Security, Mitiga, P0 Security, RAD Security, and VulnCheck. Here are my highlights from the #AustinAPISummit this week: 1?? Less than 10% of APIs are tested for security. We need to change that as soon as possible and give developers easy, automated tools for security and testing. Thanks Dan Barahona and Katie Paxton-Fear for your insights! 2?? You should build for security from the start and think ahead. Authentication, authorization, and encryption cannot be an afterthought. Ask Aran White - he prepared a great checklist for key security considerations. 3?? With decentralized apps, we need decentralized identities and security controls that stay closer to the application. It was a pleasure to listen to Travis Spencer and Andrew Waithaka on this topic. 4?? A bull-riding llama. Yes, that's correct. There was a llama riding a bull. I cannot tag the llama, so I will tag the crazy liblab team behind it ;) Thank you to Curity and Nordic APIs for organizing!

I would add two things: - using a turnkey robust encryption that does not add the headache of key management to your list of worries, and does not rely on PKI like HTTPS does - considering adding either a good monitoring solution like Salt Security or an automated fail-safe disconnect for any illigitimate traffic But then, of course, I am biased towards what we are building at re:lock ??
