This Women’s History Month, Relman Colfax honors the resilience and courage of women and nonbinary people advancing the fight against discrimination in all its forms. This month, we shine a light on those who have dedicated their lives to building a more #just and #equitable world, often overcoming extraordinary challenges. While we celebrate historic victories, we also recognize the ongoing struggles that persist. From wage inequities to disparities in healthcare access, women across the country, particularly Black, Latina, and Indigenous women, endure systemic barriers rooted in deeply ingrained gender and racial discrimination. These injustices manifest in the workplace, housing, the legal system, and beyond. The fight for #equality is far from over, and it requires collective determination to dismantle these oppressive structures. Relman Colfax remains committed to standing with women and nonbinary people in the pursuit of justice, safety, and respect. #WomensHistoryMonth #CivilRights #GenderEquality #EquityForAll?

Relman Colfax, in partnership with the National Fair Housing Alliance and the Tennessee Fair Housing Council, has secured a major settlement to advance #accessibility compliance in #housing across the Southeast. The settlement addresses alleged violations of the #FairHousingAct at 13 apartment communities across Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Alabama. This result reflects the tireless efforts of our team, including Sara Pratt and Nicholas Abbott, and the investigations led by NFHA and TFHC. Accessibility is a right, not a privilege. This settlement is a step forward in creating #inclusive housing for people with disabilities. Read more about its impact here: https://lnkd.in/e5We4gng

Charles Hamilton Houston’s legal brilliance was instrumental in dismantling Jim Crow laws. He was? the principal architect of the strategy leading to Brown v. Board of Education. A Harvard Law alumnus and dean at Howard University, Houston played a pivotal role in shaping #CivilRights litigation, ensuring the law became a tool of social change. Relman Colfax honors the monumental contributions he made to racial #equality and #justice in America.? #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM

Thurgood Marshall’s impact on civil rights cannot be overstated. A legal giant, Marshall argued and won the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case, dismantling segregation in schools. When he became the first Black Supreme Court Justice in 1967, Marshall carried his fight for justice into America’s highest court. His tenacious advocacy extended to countless #CivilRights cases and he remains a constant motivator for the work we do to this very day.? #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM

This month, we honor the legacy of Constance Baker Motley, a trailblazer in #CivilRights advocacy and the first Black woman appointed to a federal judgeship in 1966. Before making history on the bench, Motley devoted herself to #justice as a staff attorney at the #NAACP Legal Defense Fund, representing figures like #MLK Jr. Motley was the first Black woman to argue at the #SupremeCourt. Her work laid the foundation for landmark cases that brought #equality closer to reality. Today, we honor her courage, tenacity, and work as we continue fighting for justice in her spirit. #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM

Proud to have been involved in this important effort to expand residential mental health services in Virginia.
We’re proud to share that Relman Colfax's Michael Allen, alongside McGuireWoods LLP, has successfully secured a significant victory in the Virginia Court of Appeals. The Court affirmed the right of Newport Academy to operate a small, licensed group home in Loudoun County for young adults experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, and related mental health conditions. This decision underscores the importance of treating small, licensed group homes as equal under the law, in line with the federal #FairHousingAct and Virginia’s nearly 35-year-old statute requiring local zoning authorities to treat such homes like traditional families. This ruling breaks new ground as the first appellate decision in Virginia to clarify key aspects of Virginia Code §15.2-2291 and the achievement highlights the essential role these group homes play in providing high-quality, much-needed residential #MentalHealth services for communities. https://lnkd.in/enyhYCqB #FairHousing #MentalHealthSupport #LegalAdvocacy #VirginiaLaw
