The FARE Act in NYC has now passed. The intention of removing rental broker fees as a burden for NYC tenants is itself a very good cause. However, with the artificial suppression of supply in the city and further regulations by city hall, it should be a real concern for all involved that these fees will now simply be passed onto tenants in the form of increased monthly rent, making the affordability problem genuinely worse. Relm will be working with both our brokerage and landlord partners to build a better system that ensures this will not happen, with all parties instead coming away better off and the market clearing efficiently.
