??The number of refugees sheltering in Maban, South Sudan, continues to grow everyday as the brutal violence in Sudan rages on. People are arriving traumatized. They are in desperate need of healthcare and basic supplies having fled their homes by foot. ?? The support Relief International provides across 10 health facilities in Maban is life-saving, yet due to the lack of U.S. funding we will be forced to stop the following services in a matter of weeks. We urgently need support to help bridge the gap. - Over 40,000 medical consultations per month (over 1,400 per day). - The safe delivery of 500 newborn babies per month (Midwife Gune Alice, in the centre of this photo, has delivered over 3,000 babies since joining Relief International alone). - Treatment for over 400 children with moderate acute malnutrition per month. Without treatment, these children will become severely acutely malnourished and will die within weeks. - Our Health and Nutrition Technical Advisor in South Sudan says, “There is no way for those children to survive unless we provide nutritious food.” ?? Since the ceasefire began,?Relief International?has been able to bring five trucks of vital supplies into the Gaza Strip to support?Al Awda's?hospitals in Jabalia and in Nuseirat. This was possible thanks to the generosity of?EU in Emergencies?and?READ Foundation UK. Critical progress was made during the ceasefire. We cannot afford to lose it. Humanitarian supplies must be allowed entry to alleviate the suffering of Gaza's war-shattered women, children and men. Life-saving aid is a right, protected by international law.

?? We are no longer able to operate 29 health facilities?in Syria due to the cuts to U.S. foreign aid.? ? This includes?seven hospitals?which provide emergency c-sections, blood transfusions, treatment for conflict-related injuries and intensive care.? ? ?? Without them, lives are being lost. People in hard-to-reach areas will be isolated from critical health services. We have also been forced to cease support for six safe spaces for women and girls. They provided quality services that are otherwise unavailable. Children who are victims of violence and neglect are now left without care. This is not a time for hesitation. ?? We are deeply concerned about the closure of all border crossings into #Gaza. Critically-needed supplies are being prevented from entering.? The past weeks of respite have allowed for the most aid to cross into the Strip since October 2023. This progress must not be wasted. ?? Since January 19, Relief International has been able to scale up efforts, with the support of our partners on the ground and our donors – EU in Emergencies and READ Foundation UK. We have delivered five shipments of supplies to Al Awda’s hospitals in Jabalia and Nuseirat including life-saving medication and nutritional supplements, as well as warm clothes, blankets and hospital beds.? ?? Against the background of total loss and destruction, essential humanitarian supplies are not only a lifeline but a right, protected by international humanitarian law, UN Security Council resolutions and the recent rulings of the International Court of Justice.? We call on all people with influence to advocate for the reopening of all entry points into Gaza with immediate effect.?

?? Baby Wateen came close to not reaching her first birthday. It was the unwavering determination of her mother Alaa that brought her to Al Awda’s hospital in Nuseirat, where she received the malnutrition treatment she desperately needed. ??? Since receiving supplements, vitamins and fortified milk, Wateen’s acute malnutrition has improved from severe to moderate. ?????? She is one of over 6,000 people supported with nutrition services since August 2024 through a Relief International-led project called SALAM which strengthens health services across Gaza. “People are no longer primarily focused on the immediate threat of bombs, but they are increasingly aware of what they lack: food, shelter, and essential healthcare. Right now, there is an urgent need to focus on nutrition support. With the right kind of help, unnecessary deaths can be prevented,” stressed Asmaa Tamoos, who coordinates Relief International’s nutrition response in Gaza. ?? Whilst nutrition services have been scarcely available, Al Awda’s hospital in Nuseirat has been able to provide this care with?support from Relief International?and thanks to funding from EU in Emergencies. After decades of conflict, access to healthcare in Afghanistan, especially in remote locations, remains?extremely limited.? Yet treatment for diseases like tuberculosis (TB) is critical. This serious, contagious illness is a high risk in Afghanistan and can be fatal if left untreated. In 2023, TB claimed the lives of 1.25 million people worldwide. ?? Last year, Relief International tested over 31,000 people for suspected TB in Afghanistan's Nimroz and Helmand provinces. ? Over 2,000 cases were confirmed and treated with Directly Observed Therapy (DOTS) with a success rate of 95%. ????DOTS treatment takes from 3-9 months, and depends on health workers supporting their patients to take medication consistently over this period. ?? Patients were also screened for HIV, which would put them at higher risk of developing and dying from TB. ?? As a result of thorough contact tracing, over 3,000 children were placed on Isoniazid Preventive Therapy which reduces the risk of being infected by TB following exposure. Relief International’s team, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is?dedicated to ensuring the timely diagnosis and treatment of TB, as well as other life-threatening illnesses, in Afghanistan. ?? ?? In Ulang County of Upper Nile, South Sudan, access to clean drinking water was once a major challenge. Women and children walked for hours to collect water but it wasn't safe to drink, leading to widespread waterborne diseases like diarrhea and stomach infections. ?? Relief International worked to construct a borehole in 2022 which continues to provide life-saving access to clean water today. A borehole management committee was also formed at the time to ensure the borehole remains functional for years to come. ?? Now the community is healthier, children are spared from waterborne illnesses, and families have more time for education, farming and livelihoods. ?? Rolland Gueneau, Relief International's Area Director for #Gaza, speaks to CNN from Khan Younis. He says whilst we have been able to deliver essential aid to Al Awda's hospitals in Nuseirat and Jabalia in recent weeks, it is only a drop in the ocean compared to the level of need we are witnessing. The living conditions in Gaza are below every international standard or threshold we have ever set or observed. ?Beyond these initial weeks of fragile respite, the #ceasefire agreement must be upheld permanently so the painful, uphill path to rehabilitation can begin. It is critical that civilians continue to have greater access to the humanitarian aid they desperately need, as well as the essential services they have been stripped of like basic health care, water, and shelter.?
