The FAA has published a lot of guidance on how to certify new technology for use in airplanes. Many flowcharts and process diagrams have been made trying to explain it. Here's my take on a simplified, digestible cliffs notes version. Some restrictions apply, see regulator for details. Ask your DER if certification is right for you. Side effects may include temporary euphoria followed by an extended period of delayed gratification.
Highly trained and skilled air traffic controllers (ATC) manage 16 million flights each year and deserve the most current and innovative safety-enhancing technologies to perform their jobs. Last week I had the opportunity to go on a roundtrip ride-along with Reliable Airlines between KABQ and KFMN and I had a blast! (if you can't tell from the picture). It was fascinating to spend an afternoon talking to someone that flies the C208 daily while sitting in the cockpit at 12,000 ft. As someone that spends a lot of their time at Reliable Robotics Corporation working on simulating the C208, I also appreciated the opportunity just to fly in one for the first time. It is one thing to look at time-history plots of dynamic responses, but it is another to experience the dynamics first-hand.

Clarke (ret.), former Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command and?General Mike Minihan (ret.), former Commander of Air Mobility Command as members of Reliable’s Defense Advisory Board. Ames researchers joined Reliable Robotics, Collins Aerospace, and staff from the California congressional delegation this week to observe a remotely-piloted flight demonstration. Over the next year, NASA will conduct studies and flight tests to assess technologies needed to enable routine remotely-piloted operations.
It was a great two days of discussions about #Autonomy in #Aviation at the ASTM International Aviation Autonomy Symposium this week. Some of our key takeaways include: - The strong community of experts are collaborating to safely bring automation and autonomy into aviation via standards bodies and special committees - Designers of aircraft with high levels of automation will have to fully understand and describe the operational environments they will encounter, then decompose all of the intended functions, including those derived from pilot tasks that are performed by systems? - There is no substitute for real world testing #Automation #AviationSafety
