It will be very interesting to see how job offers and employment agreements change going forward to protect trade secrets and IP. Overall, I believe banning noncompete clauses by the FTC is a good thing and trends us away from 20th-century thinking, with a few industries negatively impacted in the near term. Those industries will need to adapt as quickly as possible to the new environment in case the potential incoming lawsuits don't move the needle. I'm also curious if there will be a rush to have current employees sign a new document in the coming weeks.

I'm continuously amazed at the different use cases one can achieve with DuckDB. This is a utility analytics database unlike any I have seen. The latest use case I'm seeing from various companies and people is placing your vector embeddings in DuckDB and using the query engine for similarity queries. I'm bullish on this technology and the performance it brings to teams who can adopt it quickly.

Sometimes, the small wins in programming can feel so good. We were able to get JSON processing down to 1 μs (microseconds) in some instances! This is powered by the Zig programming language and the yyjson C library. It's time to get down to business for 2024! I have firm conviction regarding open source and plan on releasing the source of many of my projects. Here is a list of projects I plan to release the source for this year ?????? Strategies HFT Module - includes all things related to fulfilling a strategy, including managing orders pertaining to the strategy. Strategies move through a state machine to handle different scenarios and operations. This works very well thus far. Thanks to Stately for an incredible state machine library! Statistics and Indicators Module - adds a stream of statistics and indicators to specific time window aggregates such as half-second, second, and minute. Listeners for strategies can then consume this stream. You must have a data provider offering real-time or delayed data for the broker module. Fake Broker Module - allows a trader or analyst to test strategies in real-time with the market. Simple rules on market execution and likelihood can be implemented. Essentially, this is a paper trading API kit where you can access all the market levers to test market conditions. Again, you must have a data provider to get the full benefits of this module.
