We were honored to host Senator Sean Ryan and Preservation Buffalo Niagara at The Sacred Heart Commons to see the progress on this transformative project. During their visit, they observed the exceptional masonry work completed by Morris Masonry Restoration, LLC, which has been essential in stabilizing the Sacred Heart Church building. This critical preservation effort was made possible through a grant from Preservation Buffalo Niagara under their East Side Commercial Building Stabilization Fund (ESCEDF) program. We are truly grateful for Preservation Buffalo Niagara’s unwavering support and for Senator Ryan’s dedication to preserving Buffalo’s historic landmarks and fostering community revitalization. The Sacred Heart Commons is a testament to the power of collaboration in preserving the past while building a vibrant future, and we’re excited to continue making progress with the help of our valued partners. #HistoricPreservation #CommunityDevelopment #SacredHeartCommons #BuffaloNY #EastSideRevitalization #Collaboration

Working to accelerate a market shift toward equitable and sustainable action to decarbonize buildings across the U.S.

Amplifying this timely message and reminder from Alex Dews and the Institute for Market Transformation. Proud to be a part of this continuing work, at all levels.

    Sustainable buildings and equitable decarbonization

For the past two years, alignment and collaboration among local, state, and federal government officials has spurred unprecedented progress on climate action and social justice. Ambitious state programs and local initiatives, made possible through historic federal investments, will continue to yield tangible impacts to the health and economic well-being of communities for many years to come. The Justice40 Initiative has also outlined a framework and developed a community of practice to ensure that these clean energy and affordable housing investments prioritize disadvantaged communities. The results of last week’s election mark an end to this relatively brief period, and the next phase of work will look different. The growing number of people and organizations working to address both the climate crisis and the historic inequities in our communities will need to find new paths forward, which will include defending the progress we’ve already made. But this is not new. For decades, local leaders and advocates have made progress by organizing, advocating, and collaborating for positive change—with, or without federal funding. The pending shift in federal priorities will create an opportunity for cities, states, businesses, and civic organizations to once again lead on climate and social justice. Our efforts to improve buildings for the people in them and around them will remain critical components of a just and sustainable energy transition. There is broad support for the work we do at Institute for Market Transformation because efficient, affordable buildings and a resilient energy system benefit everyone. They create value for owners, improve well-being and working conditions for occupants, and create local jobs that can’t be offshored. In addition, buildings—where people spend more than 90% of their time—have an outsized impact on health. The market preference for healthy, efficient buildings will continue to grow regardless of political shifts, simply because they are better. The mortgage market is beginning to price efficiency into underwriting; the insurance industry increasingly values resilience; and attracting employees back to the office means offering efficient, high-performance spaces. During this time of rapid, and sometimes abrupt change, we remain committed to advancing our mission and supporting our partners. We will continue to collaborate with building sector stakeholders, government at all levels, nonprofits, and local residents to find solutions. We’re at our best when bridging the priorities of groups who share common goals but have different perspectives, and who may not have worked together previously. This approach builds the strong alliances that support durable social, environmental, and economic change. I hope you’ll join us in supporting this work so we can build the future we deserve.

The state historic tax credit is such a critical resource for reinvesting in Louisiana. Let’s protect and preserve it well into the future!

Since 2015, Louisiana has experienced significant investment in state historic tax credit projects, totaling $2,879,409,859. This translates to an average yearly investment of $411,344,266. For every $100 invested in these projects, $77.44 in economic activity is generated elsewhere in the state. The positive ripple effect continues with job creation. On average, 2,043.5 direct jobs have been established annually, along with an additional 1,965.6 indirect and induced jobs. Notably, every 10 direct jobs generated through these projects result in 9.6 more jobs throughout Louisiana. Source PlaceEconomics 2022 Status of Historic Trades in America. Director of Community Development at MEDCO

It’s been a fantastic yearlong effort with MDOT to craft a new strategy to spur development along the MARC Penn Line.?The strategy, released last week, lays out a vision for denser, mixed-use communities around train stops between Washington and Baltimore. As the press release stated “The Plan provides a blueprint for unlocking economic opportunities at six train stops in the corridor with potential to create thousands of new jobs and yield more than $800 million in tax revenue for the State over three decades. It will help drive economic growth in underserved communities, in line with the efforts of the Moore-Miller Administration to advance transit-oriented development statewide.” This morning at the APA Maryland conference part of the Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Economic Development Corporation, HR&A Advisors, Gensler teams facilitated discussion around the opportunities that a statewide TOD policy presents and the critical findings from the Penn Line project.?We have spent so much time working together over Zoom calls the last year,?it was a pleasure to be together in person to present.?Darron Cooper Christopher Rzomp, AICP, LEED AP Austin Amandolia Evan Todtz, AICP Darrell Smith Read more about the effort here: https://lnkd.in/eHc34Gtk
