Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance. “TDOR seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people — sometimes in the most brutal ways possible — it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice.” – TDOR founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith

Today, we would like to take the opportunity to highlight and welcome to RWW team, Kevin Castellanos. "My name is Kevin Castellanos, and I am the new Office Manager for the Miami and Hollywood Florida locations. My first degree was in Zoo Animal Technology, where I was able to spend years of my life working on various conservation programs for all kinds of endangered animals. However, those programs quickly came to a holt during the COVID in 2020. Not one to idle by, I saw this as an opportunity to continue my education and pursue what ended up being an even more rewarding career, healthcare. I furthered my education by obtaining my Bachelor of Arts with a major in psychology and a minor in health promotions from the University of Florida. After graduation, I worked as an administrator at a pediatric neurology clinic, focusing on improving the lives for children living with epilepsy and spinal muscular atrophy. Seeing the difference you can make in improving one’s life for the better really solidified that this was the correct path for me. Now, my team and I continue to make a difference in the lives of our clients every day, reinforcing that idea that what we do really makes a difference." Welcome to the RWW family, Kevin!

November is #AlzheimersAwarenessMonth, a time to heighten awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and show support for the more than 6.2 million Americans living with it. Taking care of an individual with Alzheimer’s can be quite challenging, not only for the informal caregiver but also for agency-based caregivers. Understanding the disease, its affects and how to manage a client through the process with grace and dignity is of utmost importance. It takes a special kind of caregiver and a special kind of company to care for these wonderful clients. Our team of physical therapists are experts in treating issues that affect peoples’ abilities to move and function. Learn how we can help: https://nuvi.me/qbo0bg

Today we want to share the recovery progress of our patient, Colby! Colby, who has lived with severe autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, and other conduct disorders, has recently graduated high school! After living at Texas Hill Country School for nearly two years, and participating in highly structured, behavioral academic programming, he met his?academic goals and exceeded most of his behavior goals. The highlight of Colby’s rehabilitation was not only his graduation from high school, but his markedly improved ability to participate with others in social and community outings. It was heartwarming to witness how much he enjoyed his time doing fun activities like playing laser tag or bowing. His successful inclusion into the community was a huge accomplishment for him and the treatment team. Read Colby's full story here https://nuvi.me/918cb0

This year, the NP Week theme is “NPs: Going the Extra Mile,” which offers patients the opportunity to share their stories about the positive difference an NP has made in their life. #NPWeek #NPsLead
