1 in 3 stroke survivors suffer from post-stroke depression, which can significantly impact outcome potential. This is partially due to the gravity of their situation but it is important to know the impact of a brain injury on inflammatory cytokines which can also cause depressive symptoms. Appropriate referrals can be the difference between someone ending up "wheelchair bound" and not. I have seen it. #neurology #physicaltherapy #physiatry #physicalmedicineandrehabilitation

Neurologic injury can cause cognitive problems including memory and focus. Here are 4 tips to potentially improving your memory and your focus! 1. Puzzles and Games! Try a few minutes of puzzles or games like crosswords, Sudoku, or memory cards each day. These activities strengthen focus and memory while keeping your mind active and engaged 2. Meditate - I am not talking about "woo woo" stuff. Meditation, simplified, is an exercise to train your ability to attend and focus. Try a few minutes of puzzles or games like crosswords, Sudoku, or memory cards each day. These activities strengthen focus and memory while keeping your mind active and engaged 3. Leverage Technology! Use your phone’s alarm, calendar, or a reminder app to set alerts for important tasks, medications, or appointments. This helps you stay on track, reduces memory strain, and keeps your day organized 4. Keep a Routine Choose specific times for meals, rest, and activities each day. Consistent routines give your brain anchors, making it easier to remember tasks and stay focused. Start with small steps, like setting a fixed wake-up and sleep time Give these a try! #strokesurvivor #neurologicrehabilitation
