March is Music Therapy Month! Music therapy is an important aspect of the emotion-based care approach used in Peel Region’s Long Term Care Centres and Adult Day Services. Music therapy helps seniors improve their mood, reduce stress, and express themselves. When Bob moved into long term care, he was quiet and didn’t engage much with others. A Music Therapist discovered that Bob used to play guitar, started playing his favourite music on her guitar and retaught Bob the basics. With every passing week, his dexterity and ability to play improved and so did his confidence – to the point where he performed in a talent show! He is now more engaged, less withdrawn, and has a new spark in life. The Seniors Services Strategic Plan’s goal to deliver person-centred care includes the adoption of the Butterfly Approach currently used in Peel’s Long Term Care Centres in Adult Day Services (ADS). Our aim is to continue to align the care and services we provide in Adult Day Services and Long Term Care so that clients and families receive the same physical and emotional support along the continuum of care. #Peel #PeelRegion #MusicTherapyMonth #CommunityForLife #LongTermCare #Brampton #Caledon #Mississauga #AdultDayServices

At Regional Council, we celebrated an incredible achievement—Peel Region and Peel Regional Police employees raised over $252,000 for the 2024 United Way campaign. For over 45 years, Peel Region has partnered with United Way Greater Toronto to tackle housing insecurity, food access, and financial instability. In 2023-24, nearly $10 million was invested in Peel, supporting over 70 agencies and 90 programs across Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga.
