Region Nine Development Commission takes great pride in working with and on behalf of counties, cities, townships and schools throughout south central Minnesota. Since 1972, being a partner for progress has led to the development of programs and identification of solutions in the areas of aging, economic development, business development, healthy communities, transportation, community development, and leveraging regional resources. Mission Statement The mission of the Region Nine Development Commission is to promote the development of the region through intergovernmental cooperation, community and human development, long-range planning and technical assistance. Value Statements Vision / Goals We will maintain a future-oriented perspective that helps to facilitate decisions which result in healthier and more prosperous communities that are better equipped to move forward into the future. Accountability We are accountable to the public, our funding agencies and to each other for the quality of our work, promoting development of the region and being fiscally responsible. Professionalism We promote, encourage and provide opportunities for development, leadership and mentoring at all levels of participation within the organization. We expect professionalism to be demonstrated by our behavior, conduct and loyalty. Communications We value timely, open and honest communication to enhance organizational effectiveness. Adaptability We embrace change and celebrate new challenges, are able to identify problems, look at the options and evaluate the consequences with a sense of purpose and future. Minnesota GreenCorps an AmeriCorps program through the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is seeking candidates for two positions focused on Energy Conservation & Green Transportation. These full-time roles, based in the Twin Cities metro area, offer a chance to build skills, gain professional experience, and contribute to community resilience against climate change. Positions Available: American Lung Association (St. Paul): Promote electric vehicles, green transportation options, and manage outreach events. Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota (Minneapolis): Support Bicycle Friendly Communities and expand biking initiatives across the state. Service Term: January 15 – August 12, 2025 Benefits: ? RNDC was the recipient of a $100,000 grant from the Mankato Area Foundation (MAF). MAF received a $300,000 donation though the Taylor Family Farms Foundation to address regional food insecurity and RNDC will use its funds to coordinate a regional effort to rescue surplus food for food shelves. Yesterday, RNDC was honored to welcome U.S. Economic Development Administration Representative Darrin Fleener for an insightful session on the EDA's funding priorities. This event offered local stakeholders the opportunity to have their questions answered directly and to network with fellow economic development professionals. Thank you to Darrin for traveling to Region Nine, all the attendees for fostering a collaborative and engaging environment, and Minnesota State University, Mankato for hosting. Public Input Needed on Minnesota's Draft Aquaculture Plan The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is inviting feedback on its draft for the state aquaculture plan through December 18. This plan evaluates the current state of aquaculture in Minnesota, covering sectors like fish for food, bait fish, stocker fish, and ornamentals. It also outlines priorities and recommendations for marketing, leadership, regulations, and more. Explore the draft plan and share your thoughts at www.mnaquaplan.com. Funding Opportunity: Grants are available to expand access of fresh foods! The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has opened applications for its Good Food Access Program (GFAP) Equipment and Physical Improvement Grant. The GFAP grant helps grocery stores and small food retailers purchase equipment or make physical improvements that will allow them to increase the availability of and access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate foods (including produce) for underserved communities in low- and moderate-income areas.
