Our very first company investment in Regeneration.VC, CleanO2 Carbon Capture Technologies, has been featured in The Economist’s online magazine as part of their Open Atlas: Building Green Factories of the Future project. This article tells quite the story of CleanO2 Carbon Capture Technologies from its humble beginnings to today, where Choice Hotels International, one of the largest lodging franchisors in the world, received the first “World’s Leading Sustainable Technology 2024” award by the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards as the first hotel company in the world to equip one of its hotels with CleanO2 CarbinX. (Link in comments) CleanO2 Carbon Capture Technologies's journey began with a spark of curiosity. Founder Jaeson Cardiff, a former plumber and heating system mechanic, questioned why building heating systems were overlooked in emission reduction efforts. With seed money from a local angel investor and mentorship from the University of Toronto's Creative Destruction Lab, Cardiff transformed his insight into a game-changing enterprise. Today, the system is used by hotels, schools, and other commercial and public buildings across Canada, the United States, and Japan. From Calgary workshops to global recognition, their groundbreaking CarbinX technology is revolutionizing the HVAC industry, turning pesky emissions into valuable resources. They're not just dreaming of a sustainable future – they're engineering it, one exhaust system at a time. At?Regeneration.VC, we are very proud of CleanO2 Carbon Capture Technologies O2 and Jaeson Cardiff. They're showing the world that with the right tech, we can have cleaner air...and soaps!! Ruminant BioTech Secures Triple Funding Boost! Onto tackling?the largest source of livestock?emissions.? The company has received follow-on investments from AgriZeroNZ (NZ$4M, initial NZD $1.8M in 2023) and New Zealand Green Investment Finance (NZ$2M, initial NZD $2.5M in 2023), while also receiving an AU$3.5M grant under Australia's MERiL program. The funding is set to supercharge the development and commercialization of Ruminant BioTech's revolutionary methane-inhibiting bolus. ??Here's the reality: Livestock production contributes to 11+% of global greenhouse emissions, and is considered the 2nd-largest contributor to global emissions, after fossil fuels. ?What is crazy about this…is that cows’ enteric fermentation (aka cow burps) accounts for 40% of livestock emissions, translating to something like 4-7% of global GHG emissions. Ruminant BioTech uses a bolus to deliver methane knockdown over many months and is currently the most viable option for grazing cattle, posting?a 75% daily methane reduction in cattle for?120?days from a single treatment of their bolus capsule!! With 36% of New Zealand's greenhouse gas emissions originating from?dairy, beef cattle and sheep, the?nation is accelerating its push toward agricultural decarbonization through significant public and private sector investments. At the forefront of this initiative is AgriZeroNZ, a 50/50 public-private venture partnership with Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI)’ $400 million program to advance emissions-reducing research. Notably, their first joint investment alongside MPI was in Ruminant BioTech, underscoring the company's potential to transform sustainable agriculture. New Zealand Green Investment Finance (NZGIF), the country's dedicated green investment bank, continues its mission of facilitating low-carbon initiatives through strategic investments. Both organizations, alongside Australia's Methane Emissions Reduction in Livestock (MERiL) program, are backing innovative solutions to address agricultural emissions, and represent a vote of confidence from the NZ and Australian government in Ruminant BioTech’s innovative approach. Ruminant BioTech is also working with the MPI on full product registration to enable the methane-inhibiting bolus to be used on New Zealand farms.?Additionally, the Australian grant will support crucial development work, including controlled cattle trials at the University of Sydney and commercial cattle backgrounding operations. Ahead of the upcoming Series A round, this funding will accelerate product development and commercialization, bringing the groundbreaking solution closer to farmers worldwide.?At Regeneration.VC, we're proud to have led the Seed round in Ruminant BioTech and we're excited to continue supporting the company on their journey to revolutionize livestock farming and contribute to a more sustainable future for our planet.
