Reclaiming our Power for Radical Change

关于我们

We’re transforming how we think about power, who holds it, and how we wield it in our communities — we’re looking at power in every context, and speaking truth to it. We’re a team of organizers, strategists, and technologists dedicated to building transformative political power. Our work is tied to the belief that by partnering with individuals, organizations, and coalitions across the country, we can uncover leaders within communities to create radical change.

    Executive Director at re:power

This year, I am celebrating my 5th anniversary as the Executive Director of re:power. I am reflecting on my legacy and what we've built for communities of color. Over the past five years, re:power has: Doubled our annual budget More than doubled our staff size Trained 10,000 participants including pivoting to training over 2,000 organizers exclusively online in 2020 Launched our first-ever Women of Color Leadership Cohort in 2022 providing training for over 300 women And clarified the organization's mission, and values rooted in liberatory and pro-Black organizing This success is not mine alone. I would not be here if it were not for my husband, Rafiq, who took the time to care for our daughter, Zoya, so that I could pursue my dreams and passion. Thank you Rafiq. My amazing re:power team - 19 of the baddest, boldest, and most committed organizers I know who care so deeply about our work. They are the reason I love working at re:power. Our funders do more than cut checks, they are partners; this has created the conditions for re:power to do bigger and bolder things for this movement. One of the best examples of this is my board who trusts me to continue strengthening this organization; that’s a deep trust I had never felt previously.?This culture on the board was spearheaded by four special board members who are rolling off this year: Sarah Audelo, April Sims, Leah Boudreaux, and Carmen Berkley. All four of these women were part of the board who hired me, but also a big reason why I stayed and why I have thrived. All of them have invested in my personal growth and leadership, partnering with me through the challenges and celebrating the wins as well. I am so grateful to have been in this relationship with each of you - thank you for your dedication and service. I could not be more proud of the programs, infrastructure, and culture we've built. And we did it with a clarified purpose rooted in liberatory and pro-Black organizing. Join me in celebrating re:power's growth and looking excitedly to the future. Foundation Executive | Strategist | Bestselling Author | Creative and Facilitator

For 5 glorious years, I’ve been the board chair alongside a dedicated group of leader’s for re:power — a team of organizers, strategist and technologist building a multi-racial democracy by helping individuals strengthen their strategies and develop skills through trainings and leadership development. This week, we celebrated our executive director, leader, and Afro-futurist Karundi A. Williams as she reached her 5 year anniversary in her role. Karundi, her executive team of women of color, and their talented staff team have transformed this organization into more than just a training organization, it’s a movement hub for thought leadership and ideas. They are putting information about narrative strategy, organizing, civic engagement, movement technology, progressive governance and women of color leadership into OUR hands, and ensuring our folks feel informed, cared for and powerful nationwide. I couldn’t be prouder of her, or them. As my time as board chair winds down, I have some reflections on how to be a good board member to Black women and leaders of color that I want to share, but until then, I’m excited for the incoming board chair Jennifer Epps-Addison, J.D., and I hope yall join me in celebrating our queen Karundi, and sending your team members to these revolutionary trainings. https://repower.org/
