Never give up! An amazing story of resiliency and determination. Congratulations Fadi Chalouhy !
Yesterday marked one of the most monumental days of my life. After 33 years of struggle, heartbreak, and relentless persistence, I can finally say: I am no longer stateless. It’s been three decades filled with rejection after rejection, setback after setback. Here are just a few: - Tried to claim Lebanese citizenship through my mother? Denied. - Lived over 2 decades in Lebanon, hoping it would grant me citizenship? Denied. - Applied for Syrian citizenship through my father? Denied. - Sought asylum in France? Declined. - Applied for a humanitarian visa to Australia in 2016? Declined. - Was offered an illegal passage to Europe by boat? Refused—even though it felt like a last resort. - Tried resettlement through the UN? Rejected. - Asked the UN for help? No response. In 2019, I arrived in Australia on a skilled shortage visa. And yesterday, that journey finally led to my first ever citizenship. I am officially an Aussie! The family who lifted me up and believed in me throughout this long struggle are no longer here to witness this day. But the family I was so fortunate to create was right there by my side. PS: my daughter's fist bump summarises exactly how I feel right now?.
