Reforged Labs (YC W22) has raised $3.9 million in seed funding to transform gaming ads with GenAI. Player acquisition is crucial for game studios but has always been challenging and costly. Marketing is a major hurdle, with video ads being key but difficult to manage due to ad fatigue, rising costs, and complex testing. Founded by Robert Huynh and Oscar Xing Luo, Reforge Labs launched in February to address this problem with an AI-powered platform that simplifies and speeds up ad creation and optimization. Reforge helps studios produce high-quality video ads quickly by automating ideation, storyboarding, and development, allowing developers to create new ads in minutes rather than days or weeks. Pilot customers have already seen significant improvements in ad creation speed, reduced feedback loops, and increased click-through rates and returns on ad spend. The company plans to expand its technology to support more game companies and enhance its AI capabilities, aiming to be an essential tool for game marketing. “There’s AI for that” ?? - what I learned about building LLMs from Mistral AI and how they speedran to their $6B valuation. It’s incredible to me that just over a year after they were founded, Mistral has already raised over $1B in funding as a “mere” Series B AI startup ?? I had the privilege of attending one of their recent events at the Y Combinator HQ and was all ears about how they achieved their jaw-dropping growth and what they see in the future of GenAI. What stuck with me were these takeaways: LLMs’ strengths lie in handling three types of work - the repetitive ??, the unseen ???, and the taboo ??. In other words, tedious and time-consuming processes, ‘back-office’ operations that often go unnoticed but are crucial for seamless functionality, and of course, tasks that are sensitive or uncomfortable. And while I can’t speak to the third, ‘spicy’ workflow, at Reforged Labs (YC W22), we’re certainly leveraging LLMs to better game studios’ bottom lines, making monotonous and ‘behind-the-scenes’ UA work far more simple and effective! ?? ? Customization is key. Mistral is leading the way with flexible AI models that can be fine-tuned for different industries. At Reforged Labs, we’re adopting the same principle - every studio and marketing team we serve brings their own set of creative and performance pain-points, and we build the solutions that help them maximize value by embedding AI into their workflows. ???? Make friends with the dev crowd. A large part of Mistral’s success is rooted in their commitment to the developer community.
