There’s a lot of skepticism—and, honestly, fear—in the field of psychotherapy when it comes to the use of AI in addressing mental health issues. Some therapists are wary of human-AI relationships and many are concerned about the potential for harm. I believe a lot of that comes from a limited understanding of how AI can be used. I love introducing the work of ReflexAI into these conversations, especially the work they’ve done in addressing mental health among our veterans. In this work, AI is a partner, not a replacement, a tool that is used to reduce harm and increase the likelihood of confident connection and attunement in a potential crisis.
