RBLD is proud to have worked on the River City Casino. Lighting was used to support the image of the 1904 St. Louis Worlds Fair, while still supporting the Missouri Gaming Commission's rigorous illumination requirements in unobtrusive ways. With widely varied design aspects for each environment, the lighting is able to highlight each area's design aesthetics. _________________________________________ The River City Casino won the IES Award of Merit. The story continues! Randy Burkett,'s goal of opening a Chicago office has finally been realized! The connections of our four principals across the decades have helped make this dream a reality.
A Story of Connections: How RBLD’s Chicago Office Came to Be Opening a Reed Burkett Lighting Design office in Chicago has been a long-time goal, and with the addition of Aurora Lighting Design, that vision is now a reality. This expansion, however, is not just about geography, but it speaks to the professional and personal connections that brought us to this juncture. My association with Lisa J. Reed goes back to her days as a student at the University of Kansas, where I was a guest critic for her senior studio project. Since 2005, we’ve worked in the same city, crossing paths in the St. Louis lighting community and developing a mutual respect for each other’s work. Bringing our firms together to form RBLD felt like a natural evolution of that relationship. Carla Bukalski, has been a force in Chicago lighting for many years, and her ability to bridge technical expertise with creative vision makes her fittingly qualified to lead our Chicago studio. Though she and I have known each other for years, it was Lisa’s long-standing friendship with Carla that brought us together in this exciting endeavor. Leslie North and I have known each other for most of our lighting careers.?Her father was one of my professors at Penn State, introducing me to the world of computer science during my freshman semesters. Leslie and I have toiled together on many IES committees and have long shared a mutual admiration for our commitments to elevating the profession of lighting design. She has built Aurora Lighting Design, an RBLD Studio into a firm known for its excellence, and now, as Aurora becomes an RBLD studio, we have the opportunity to move forward together. This expansion is more than just a new office—it’s a maturing of the relationships that have shaped us over the years. I am excited for what is ahead as we continue to grow, collaborate, and create exceptional lighting design. But wait, there's more! Be sure to follow Reed Burkett Lighting Design and Aurora Lighting Design, an RBLD Studio, for more connection stories from our other principals. #LightingDesign #Connections #RBLD
Thirty (30!) years. That’s how long Vickie Hayden has been an essential part of our firm—way over half her life! She started when she was *ahem* really young, hired because they knew she could handle the strong personalities in the office. (Spoiler: She handled them just fine.) Through three decades of change, mergers, and countless projects, Vickie has kept the ship steady. She "knows where all the bodies are buried" and promises that when she’s 100, she’ll still be wheeling around her living facility quoting project numbers. Please join us in congratulating Vickie on this incredible milestone! Her resilience, knowledge, and humor have been a constant, and we’re grateful for everything she brings to the team. ?? #30Years #WorkAnniversary #Resilience #ThankYouVickie
