  • Earlier this month, 8-12th graders from across Somerset county explored a variety of healthcare careers at the Scrub Club! This interactive summer camp included trips to RFGH, MaineHealth Franklin Hospital, Beal University (Wilton), and University of Maine at Farmington, while students spent the rest of their time learning IV, suturing, dental, and first aid skills, how to take vital signs, participated in a mock crime scene interpretation and mock accident scene, and even learned how to care for wounds and how to perform “surgery” among many other fun activities. This exciting week was made possible through the collaborative effort between RFGH, JMG, Maine AHEC (Area Health Education Center), and SAHS/SCTC. Thank you to all who participated and shared their healthcare knowledge with these eager learners - we are already looking forward to next year!

  • During Hospital Week, RFGH announced Kevin Norweg as the first ever CARES Award recipient! The CARES Award is presented to an RFGH employee who exemplifies our core values of Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Service, while going above and beyond their daily job duties. The RFGH CARES Award recipient is dedicated to a cooperative work culture, exhibits the highest level of personal and professional responsibility, is committed to the continuous demonstration of trust, understanding, honesty, and excellence, and provides dependable and professional care. Kevin works in Environmental Services and has been an employee of RFGH for 4 years. Here is Kevin’s nomination story: “Kevin is always a team player when it comes to employee recognition efforts. He makes a strong effort to ensure staff on different shifts feel included. He is willing to stop at the drop of a hat to help someone. There have been several times when he has noticed me doing something labor intensive and he has always stopped to help. I have witnessed him do this for others as well. He is also a shining star in his own department. Many areas of the hospital rely on his attention to detail when it comes to Environmental Services. His effort to support his own department and new hires does not go unnoticed.” Please join us in congratulating Kevin!

  • RFGH is pleased to announce our newest The DAISY Foundation award recipient, Mallory Provost! The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring, and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this international award to say thank you to nurses everywhere. Mallory started her career at RFGH as a graduate nurse in 2008 and joined the PACU team in 2012, where she remains today. Mallory is described as an excellent nurse who is a true asset to RFGH by “exemplifying all that a nurse should be by standing up for patient-centered care on a daily basis.”?Her nomination included multiple examples of times she went above and beyond to care for her patients. In one situation, Mallory collaborated with multiple departments to ensure a new mother could continue pumping breast milk and have a safe place to store it after a surgery.?This ensured peace of mind for the patient who was “extremely grateful” for Mallory’s advocacy.?In another situation, Mallory discovered a patient was not receiving their beta blocker medication as she thought they should. So, she researched protocols, consulted with other departments, and is now the driving reason behind the revised protocol for the medication – demonstrating another instance of collaboration and excellence in her nursing services. The DAISY award at RFGH is made possible through the generosity of Purdue Global. If you have received extraordinary nursing care while at RFGH, please submit a nomination at https://lnkd.in/evbGTMUE Please join us in congratulating Mallory on this amazing honor!
