A new executive order from the Trump administration is reinforcing healthcare price transparency rules, aiming to bring more clarity to hospital pricing nationwide. The order highlights concerns that hospital pricing arrangements have been "hidden" and "opaque," making it difficult for patients and providers to navigate costs effectively. Under Executive Order 13877, the Secretaries of Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services have 90 days (from February 25, 2025) to take action, including: ?? Requiring actual price disclosure – No more estimates; hospitals and insurers must share true costs. ?? Standardizing pricing information – Ensuring comparability across hospitals and health plans. ?? Strengthening enforcement – Updating policies to ensure compliance and accurate reporting. Rural hospitals will need to closely monitor how federal agencies enforce these regulations and determine the best approach to compliance. Partnering with organizations that can support data reporting, financial analysis, and operational efficiencies will be key.
