NFL Cheerleader turned Emergency Medicine Physician Associate - Empowering Patients to Become Better Consumers of Healthcare.
I was too cowardly to post about this myself when I became aware in 2021. But I've grown since then. Incentives matter. My DPC accepts insurance (hybrid model) and pushes boosters indiscriminately (toddlers and elderly populations ALL treated the same). Every time I see the email from the practice, I remember this little notice and wonder if it has anything to do with it.
Incentivizing healthcare providers with financial bonuses to administer COVID vaccines, as seen in programs like Anthem’s Vaccine Provider Incentive Program, raises significant ethical and trust issues. Monetizing rewards undermines the integrity of patient-provider relationships. Patients trust that their healthcare providers to make recommendations based solely on medical necessity and their individual health needs. Financial incentives make it unclear whether providers are motivated by patient well-being or money. These programs often push providers to prioritize vaccination rates over patient health, even if a patient has valid concerns or health conditions. My daughter’s healthcare program pressured her to get a flu vaccine, despite her having a heart condition that prevents her from receiving vaccinations. We’ve had to jump through countless hoops to provide proof of her exemption—even though she attends school at the very hospital that already has her medical records on file. Incentivizing providers to push vaccines not only compromises the ethics of medicine but it has turned public health into a money-making enterprise. True progress in healthcare comes from transparent, trustworthy approaches—NOT financial manipulation. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield #healthcare #healthinsurance #vaccine #covid us-beacon.com
