关于我们
Redesign uses development to engage the energy and creativity of residents and businesses in the evolution of neighborhoods to serve future generations. Seward Redesign was established in 1969 as the nonprofit community developer in the Seward neighborhood. Redesign has since expanded to serve the five neighborhoods of the Longfellow community: Seward, Longfellow, Cooper, Howe, and Hiawatha. We maintain an entrepreneurial, team-oriented work environment that supports individual creativity and collaboration with other organizations.

We were honored to attend the AIA Minneapolis Preservation Awards Thursday night where The Historical Coliseum Building was recognized in the category of "Historic Restoration, Rehabilitation, or Adaptive Reuse." This recognition celebrates not just a building, but our community’s resilience, vision, and commitment to equitable development. After the trauma and devastation of 2020, we saw an opportunity — not just to restore a building, but to reimagine the future. Through intentional, equity-driven development, Redesign partnered with business owners Alicia Belton, FAIA, NOMA, Janice Downing, and Shanelle Evens Montana & Chris Montana to restore and co-own this landmark. Receiving this award is an incredible honor, but the real victory is in seeing the Coliseum once again alive with small businesses, artists, and local leaders shaping its future. Thank you to our partners, supporters, and AIA Minneapolis for recognizing this transformative work! We are so thrilled to have won an AIA Minnesota Preservation award for The Historical Coliseum Building! "The Historic Coliseum Building sets a new standard for community-centered architectural preservation and adaptive reuse. Constructed in 1917, this neighborhood cornerstone embodies over a century of history as a space for gathering, dining, and commerce. Scarred during the 2020 civil unrest following the murder of Mr. George Floyd, nonprofit Community Developer Redesign, Inc. responded to the community’s cries to change how our communities are structured and constructed by purchasing the building and partnering with BIPOC-led business owners Alicia Belton, FAIA, NOMA, Janice Downing, and Shanelle Evens Montana & Chris Montana to restore the Coliseum as a symbol of resilience, healing, and hope." Shout out to Urban Design Perspectives, Levin Charles Architects, Station 19 Architects, Inc, Victus Engineering, PALANISAMI & ASSOCIATES, INC, HKGi, PIERCE PINI & ASSOCIATES, INC., Lerch Bates Inc., FinePoint Technology, Rapids & Affiliates | Foodservice Experts, New History, Watson-Forsberg Co., TRI-Construction and the countless others who brought this community vision to fruition.

Redesign's Development Committee got a tour yesterday of the progress on Wadaag Commons. This 39 unit, 6-story elevator-served apartment building will be 100% affordable to low-income families and will include: ??? Units with more than 2 bedrooms ?? Private exterior entrances to foster a sense of ownership and connection to the community ???A playground where children can freely play ?? Multi-story units that reduce noise ?? Sufficient bathrooms to serve the whole family ?? Central air conditioning ?? In-unit laundry ?? Prioritized access to underground parking for families ?? Oversized refrigerators in the larger units to ensure that families have enough space to store food. This partnership between Redesign and Noor Companies – an East African woman-owned company – is designed to meet the needs of large families. Stay tuned for more updates!
