Jess and Maria Kajiwarn started donating blood in January of 2024. Maria said she understands the importance of blood and having it readily available for people in need. "In 2021, my father was in critical need of blood," Maria recounted. "At that time--there was no blood for him." Since then, the couple have decided to donate blood whenever they can, to help prevent that worry in other peoples lives. "We wanted to help the community and help prevent another shortage," Jess said. "There's a lot of disasters that are happening and we need to do our part." When you download the free Red Cross Blood Donor app, you are able to follow the process of your blood donation; from when it enters the lab, to when it arrives at a hospital. "I track my donations every time," Maria exclaimed. "I've seen it's gone to Georgia, South Carolina, and in Durham, I always look forward to it." Jess added, to donate blood, it's simple and a good way to help people. "It's a great cause and you might be the one needing blood one day," Jess said. "It's a great way to help because I can't go out and put out fires or anything. But this is my way to help," Maria added.
