关于我们
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. Our mission is more than words. We always aim to prevent and relieve suffering with every action. The Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides comfort to people affected by disasters; supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; distributes international humanitarian aid; and supports veterans, military members and their families. The Red Cross is not a government agency. The Red Cross is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to deliver its mission.

The American Red Cross responds to a disaster every eight minutes and stays ready to respond 24/7. Last week, Red Cross volunteers from across Pennsylvania gathered with government partners and community organizations in Mechanicsburg to build relationships and collaborate before a disaster strikes. This hands-on training included real-life scenarios and simulating the opening of an emergency shelter. By working together now, we ensure we’re ready to provide care and comfort when communities need us most. ??

“A better world starts with building stronger communities.” For decades, Ford Philanthropy, the global philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, has partnered with the Red Cross to support communities in crisis. It all started during World War I with the design and donation of Model T ambulances and continued in World War II with donations to the Red Cross Motor Corps — a group of passionate women who volunteered to transport wounded soldiers and deliver essential supplies and personnel to their posts. Today on Red Cross Giving Day, Ford Philanthropy is paying it forward once again by matching your donations up to $250,000 until midnight ET. Double your impact and help provide shelter, food, and emergency assistance to people in need when disasters strike. Donate today: https://rdcrss.org/41VaVA4

Sarah Slep was working from home in Pittsburgh when she was startled by noises coming from the apartment above her. “I was just about to take my lunch break when I heard a commotion upstairs – running back and forth and yelling – and then smoke started coming out of the heat ducts,” Sarah said. She called her partner, Annemarie Harb, at work and told her their apartment was on fire. She rushed home to find Sarah standing outside with their cat in her arms. “I remember feeling my heart pounding and I just couldn’t believe it was all happening,” Sarah said. Unsure of what to do next, Sarah and Annemarie were approached by two American Red Cross volunteers. “Like angels, they just appeared and took control of the situation,” Annemarie said. “It was this moment of, like, where are we going to stay? What are we going to do? And the Red Cross showed up like angels and said, ‘Here’s exactly what you’re going to do.’” The volunteers were members of the Disaster Action Team who provide support to people after local emergencies like home fires. They gave Sarah and Annemarie immediate financial assistance to help them get back on their feet. “We would have stood there, probably looking around, not knowing the next step,” Sarah said. “So to have somebody tell you what you’re going to need to do and to have that [financial assistance] to use for whatever you needed, that just took a lot of the worry out of the next steps.” Disasters like home fires happen every eight minutes to families across the country, and your support of the American Red Cross helps ensure they don't face these crises alone. On March 26, unite with thousands of compassionate people by donating at redcross.org/GivingDay. In moments of heartbreak, your gift gives hope by providing shelter, food, relief supplies, emotional support and financial assistance. #HelpCantWait

The Pennsylvania State Capitol is glowing red in honor of the American Red Cross and our dedicated volunteers who bring help and hope to those in need. Governor Shapiro has officially proclaimed March as Red Cross Month, celebrating those who turn compassion into action when help can't wait. “Whether it's responding to disasters, providing vital blood supplies, delivering lifesaving training, or supporting our military families, the Red Cross is always ready to step in and help those in crisis,” Governor Shapiro said in the proclamation. “I commend the dedicated network of brave volunteers and compassionate donors who selflessly serve our communities in need.” You can be part of this mission by supporting Red Cross Giving Day on March 26. Make a financial donation, give blood, volunteer or take a class - every action makes an impact.
