What a wonderful day at Tees Valley Womens Centre* celebrating International Women's Day 2025 with all the incredible ladies in our community!???? Thank you to everyone who came along to join us and all of the special friends of the centre who contributed to make the day such a huge success. Thirteen Group Employability Service, Citizens Advice Darlington, Redcar and Cleveland and Eva Womens Aid for their specialist advice and support, our wonderful Yoga specialist who provided some relaxation techniques workshops throughout the day, the ladies from Learning Curve Group who treat the ladies to some lovely hair and beauty treatments, the 'Healthy Heart' practitioners from Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria there to give valuable health advice and checks. And of course a HUGE thank you to all of the staff and volunteers for all their hard work and support organising the day and working so hard to make it such a brilliant event! The perfect way to celebrate INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (MARCH 8), Tees Valley Womens Centre and all the wonderful ladies in our community! ???? *Tees Valley Women’s Centre is a women only safe space, we fully support the protection of single sex spaces and services for all women. One I always look forward to celebrating for #IWD - the Redcar & Cleveland Inspiring Women Awards. Every year I'm reminded of the riches of ambition, tenacity and successes in our loved county. As well as individual recognition for young women, leadership, business, and community, there is a volunteer award which is in memory of the late, much-missed Julie Donaldson. This was particularly appropriate this year, as the event also provided opportunity for her former radio station, Zetland FM, to receive a King's Award presented by Lord Lieutenant Jo Ropner on behalf of King Charles III. I've been fortunate to visit Zetland in their vertical pier studio on a number of occasions, and I know their award for their charity performance and the quality of their programmes is well deserved. The main reason I attend these awards is through the IW shadowing programme; I host a young woman for a day in July every year, for her to gain experience in a STEM leadership environment. In 2024, 41 young people from 5 different schools participated. I know that Candace Gilbert would welcome more volunteers, so if you can offer a day with a young person from a R&C school, get in touch. Date: 09/04/2025 Time: 10am – 1pm Location:?Inspire2Learn, South Bank, Normanby Rd, TS6 9AE This event, held by us in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland College, Prior Pursglove College and Choices College, and organised by the young people, will give you the change to meet some of our highly skilled young people undertaking a supported internship. The Supported Internship programme is a work-based study programme for 16 to 24-year-olds with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). With the support from a job coach, the programme provides a springboard into permanent employment for the young people.
