PSA "During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, from 2017-2021, over 830 people died in crashes involving a drunk driver," the NHTSA said. Ordinarily, "about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes" every day, the agency said, which works out to one person every 39 minutes. The risk of encountering drunk drivers on Thanksgiving is 55% higher than average, according to financial site MoneyGeek. The largest percentage of those drivers (44%) were young people ages 21-24.
