Renee has been actively enhancing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education in public schools for over a decade through strategic teacher partnerships, PTC leadership, grant writing, and nonprofit board roles. Her efforts have focused on creating innovative learning experiences, fostering school collaboration, and securing funding through grants and business partnerships. As a local entrepreneur, Renee brings valuable business insights and a strong network to ReCreate. She looks forward to leveraging her experience to support educational initiatives and expand opportunities for students, combining her passion for STEAM education with her community-driven approach. Our mission at ReCreate is to divert clean usable waste to use in hands-on learning and creative exploration to make both our schools and the community a more vibrant place while bridging the education gap. ReCreate is committed to reducing waste in our community—and inspiring others to do the same—through art, education, and imagination. ReCreate has taken its More Art! Less Waste! program to over 15,000 elementary school students in the greater Sacramento region, teaching students about the importance of diverting and reducing waste. ReCreate also offers our GeniusMobile - a mobile maker space to bring hands-on project based STEAM (science, technology, education, art, and math) learning to schools in our region, especially focusing on underserved schools. Students have fun while learning to tackle obstacles using critical thinking and an innovative approach to problem solving. In the last year we have also launched a distance learning version of our GeniusMobile programming, providing more flexibility for students in their STEAM education. You can also visit us in our ReUse Store and EcoArt Studio where we divert over 70 tons of material from landfill each year. At our ReUse Store, knitters, crafters, teachers, costume-makers, scrap-bookers, and holiday-decoration enthusiasts can find an array of exciting goods for their projects! We offer drop-in crafting and a multitude of workshops at our site from fine arts classes for adults to maker-education summer camps for tomorrow’s engineers—all using the materials we diverted from landfill, simultaneously helping our planet and educating people on why we should reduce, reuse, and recycle.

We are excited to share that ReCreate’s STEAM Team high school volunteer program has seen incredible growth this year! What started as a small group has now expanded exponentially, with 50 passionate teens showing up to our latest meeting—double the number we expected. Their energy and enthusiasm are inspiring! This dedicated team will be supporting our GeniusMobile program, bringing hands-on STEAM education to family STEAM nights, community events, and more. Their contributions will help us continue delivering creative, sustainable learning experiences to schools and communities across the region. A special shout-out to Maya, who won our quiz and earned a 3D printer pen, and to Madeline and Vitoria for their leadership and support. We are excited to see this program thrive and grateful to all the students who have committed their time and skills to ReCreate’s mission.

We’re excited to share that ReCreate has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the Walter and Irmgard Schichtel Fund at @Placer Community Foundation! This generous support will enable us to bring more hands-on STEAM education to underserved youth in Placer County. Our mission is to inspire creativity, innovation, and sustainability in the next generation. With this grant, more students from Title 1 schools will have access to our unique maker education programs, empowering them to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We are grateful to Placer Community Foundation for supporting our work and investing in the future of our community’s youth. Stay tuned for updates on how this grant will impact local students!
