Take 10 minutes today—maybe sit down with a cup of tea, or coffee, or a snack and reflect on this beautiful piece by Recovery Café Network Cofounder Killian Noe. With stories and humor, Killian invites us all to consider how and when we live more from scarcity than abundance, or fear than love, and points to the healing power of community. You can listen to her talk here: https://lnkd.in/gsUfmSZ6 Or read it here: https://lnkd.in/gxQZ6jsP #recoverycafenetwork Maddy Lee, LMSW David Coffey K.Killian Noe Ruby Takushi

It’s now three weeks since our conference “Rendezvous: Leading with Love” wrapped up in Seattle. Rosi Greenberg, our keynote speaker, is also a talented artist; she created numerous images capturing the themes of the presentations given during our two days together. In this one she draws out some of the highlights of her own presentation on “Loving Accountability as a Leadership Practice.” For example, we can be caring AND hold clear boundaries. During her presentation she had us reflect on what we bring to every conversation by answering questions like, “If I am firm and hold clear boundaries, then ____?” Or, “If I am soft, then ____”? With thanks to Rosi and in recognition that throughout the Recovery Café Network we so often need to draw on the skill of offering loving accountability—how challenging that can be . . . and how important it is on the recovery journey. #recoverycafenetwork #rosigreenberg David Coffey Maddy Lee, LMSW Ruby Takushi K.Killian Noe Ashley Green

"Love longs to give itself away not just through us, but AS us." Cofounder Killian Noe at Rendezvous, June 3, 2024 The Recovery Café Model was founded on the firm belief that all of us, no matter who we are, have love at our core, and have love to share. Recovery Cafés seek to be communities where each one of us can rediscover and live out of that core of love. Watch a short clip of Killian's Rendezvous 2024 talk, kicking off this year's theme: "Leading with Love." #recoverycafenetwork #recoveryispossible David Coffey K.Killian Noe Maddy Lee, LMSW Ruby Takushi Alex Welch, MPH Ashley Green

Two weeks ago today, Recovery Café Network wrapped up the 2024 conference "Rendezvous: Leading with Love." Throughout the Network, loving accountability is a core value, practiced in all Recovery Cafés. Rendezvous's keynote speaker Rosi Greenberg, in this brief video clip, speaks to the possibility and importance of both fully accepting someone while at the same time inviting change, one practice closely connected to embodying loving accountability. With gratitude to Rosi and to all the ways those across the Network offer love and accountability. https://lnkd.in/gKv_qc3x #recoverycafenetwork #rosigreenberg Maddy Lee, LMSW David Coffey K.Killian Noe Ruby Takushi Alex Welch, MPH

El Camino Seguro: Recovery Café Medford Paves the Way Translated into English, "El Camino Seguro" means "the safe path." At the Recovery Café Network’s two-day conference last week, we honored Recovery Café Medford (OR) with the Ricky Klausmeyer-Garcia Radical Hospitality and Inclusivity Award. Both Ricky and Medford have helped pave the way. Ricky’s kindness, the radical hospitality he extended?to all, and his ability to create welcoming, inclusive spaces inspired many across the country. Ricky began struggling with substance use disorder as a young adult. He was a true advocate and helped pass “Ricky’s Law” in Washington in 2016 alongside his best friend, Representative Lauren Davis. The law allows for people with substance use disorders to be involuntarily committed to treatment if they are found to be gravely disabled or a danger to themselves or others. Recovery Café Medford’s relationships with and outreach to the Spanish-speaking community was particularly noted and celebrated in the award ceremony. Their Spanish-only peer support program, El Camino Seguro, centers Latinx cultures at the Café. The Café also hosts the only LGBTQIA+ recovery group in Medford. Ricky’s mother, two sisters, and a niece honored us with their presence; they spoke of Ricky’s life and their love for him. In honor of Ricky and his family, and with gratitude for and recognition of Recovery Café Medford’s work to create loving, healing community in Medford. #recoverycafenetwork #RCMedford David Coffey Ruby Takushi Maddy Lee, LMSW Alex Welch, MPH K.Killian Noe Lauren Davis Stephanie Mendenhall

Rendezvous: Leading with Love! Last week over 120 Café leaders gathered for two days in Seattle for our first in-person gathering since 2019! In that time, we’ve grown from 15 Cafés to over 65—from Florida to British Columbia (Vancouver), Massachusetts to Arizona, Indiana to California, Washington to Minnesota. To meet those with whom we’ve only met on Zoom, and to understand in our bones how deeply connected we are left us laughing, smiling, and often teary. Cofounder Killian Noe began with a moving talk, reflecting on living from love rather than fear. We heard from Café leaders about responsible stewardship of our Cafés, and building coalitions to advance recovery advocacy. Our keynote speaker and artist Rosi Greenberg helped us all reflect on the polarity, rather than binary, of leading with both care/understanding and firmness/boundaries. At the conclusion of this year’s Rendezvous, Cofounder Killian addressed the attendees and, by extension, all those working with and supporting Cafés across North America. She concluded: “We are in awe of all of you.” Those of us working at the Recovery Café Network are indeed—and we are more than blessed to share this work and mission! #recoveryispossible #recoverycafenetwork David Coffey Maddy Lee, LMSW Ruby Takushi K.Killian Noe Alex Welch, MPH
