RECONMATIC is a #HorizonEurope Research & Innovation Action project for sustainable construction waste management.

关于我们

RECONMATIC receives funding from the H2020 Research & Innovation Programme. It proposes a suite of innovative tools & techniques to build bridges through "bottom-up" construction and demolition waste (CDW) prevention and handling to reach "top-down" European waste reduction goals. The project's agenda reflects the call objectives, with a focus on integrated decision making that would allow considering all aspects of CDW generation and involving all stakeholders within the construction industry. Current practices in CDW management, from prevention and minimization of waste to its reuse, will be evaluated and markets to support the supply chains and #circulareconomy models will be identified. Consequently, a digital information management system for stakeholders' collaboration and waste traceability will be developed, tested and demonstrated. It is envisaged that the CDW minimization will be achieved by empowering BIM and integrating #wastemanagement relevant data into the information models. Processes of converting different formats of construction information to the digital twins will be automated, as well as the decision-making system for repurposing, deconstruction and demolition. The consortium involves 7 research institutions, 10 small to medium enterprises, 5 large companies and 1 association, representing 5 EU countries, UK and China. The feasibility and efficiency of the developed solutions will be evaluated using 6 demonstrators. The posts reflect the view of the project partners. The account is managed by the dissemination partner Future Needs Management Consulting Ltd. (www.futureneeds.eu) Call: HORIZON-CL4-2021-TWIN-TRANSITION-01 (TWIN GREEN AND DIGITAL TRANSITION 2021)

RECONMATIC will be represented at Futurebuild at ExCeL London on March 5th and 6th! You can find us at stand L68, hosted by our project partner, The University of Salford. Juan Antonio Férriz Papí and Ali Nader Saad will be there, ready to present the RECONMATIC project, discuss its use cases, answer questions, and explore potential synergies. Futurebuild brings together the entire supply chain to drive sustainable construction toward net zero. Over three days, industry leaders, innovators, and experts will showcase cutting-edge solutions and exchange knowledge to shape the built environment for the better. Are you attending? Reach out to Juan or Ali to arrange a meeting. #Futurebuild2025 #HorizonEU

RECONMATIC is hosting its 5th OPEN DAY, this time in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city. Titled “Smart Circular Economy Solutions: Recycling, Reuse & Digital Innovation,” the event will be held in Greek and co-organised with TEE TKM under the auspices of the Department of Civil Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) (Laboratory of Building Construction & building Physics (LBCP)). ?? This free event is open to anyone interested in circularity in construction, with no registration required. Attendees will explore cutting-edge solutions for sustainable waste management, collaboration, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and 3D printing. The event will also showcase innovative strategies for recycling and reusing materials in building and infrastructure projects. More details, including the agenda and speaker lineup, can be found in the comments. #RECONMATICOpenDays #HorizonEurope European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA)

In the construction sector, innovation is key to sustainability—but so is inclusion. While progress is being made, gaps remain: ?Only 10% of female doctoral graduates conduct research in Engineering, Manufacturing, and Construction. ?41% of doctoral graduates in Architecture and Construction are women - approaching gender balance but still below parity. At RECONMATIC, we believe that the construction industry needs diverse perspectives to drive impactful change. Encouraging more women in research and innovation isn’t just about equity—it’s about unlocking better, smarter solutions for the future of construction. How can we close this gap and ensure more women lead in construction innovation?

Yong Wang, Professor at The University of Manchester, during the RECONMATIC Open Day in Shaoxing, China, discussed the reuse of steel and composite structures. His focus was on: ?? The necessity of reuse ?? Designing for reuse ?? Challenges in reclaiming materials ?? Maximizing reuse in practice His insights highlight that while structural reuse presents challenges, it is both technically feasible and environmentally necessary. With a shift in industry mindset, enhanced design strategies, and improved testing methods, steel reuse can become a standard practice. Check out the presentation slides below. Our latest research article, authored by Václav Ne?erka, Tomá? Zbíral, and Stanislav?Vítek, has been published in Resources, Conservation & Recycling and is also available in the RECONMATIC community on Zenodo (links provided in the comments). The study explores the role of hyperspectral imaging in the efficient classification of construction and demolition waste. #Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) offers remarkable potential for material analysis through spectral signatures, but its practicality in real-time sorting of construction and demolition waste (CDW) is limited by the need for rapid, lightweight classification. Our study demonstrates that with carefully selected narrowband filters, we can achieve comparable classification accuracy using standard cameras while significantly reducing computational requirements. We invite you to read the full article and join the discussion on innovative solutions for resource conservation and waste management.
