You have to see Clean Bushwick Initiative's thank you note from Thanks a Ton, turning the simple act of sending a greeting card into impactful climate action! Last Saturday afternoon, Reclypt joined a handful of other #repair volunteers at Farm To People with the goal of resisting our throwaway culture through community skill sharing. Our mending circle was busy with repairing loose buttons, patching holes, and embellishing clothes to divert them from landfills. Right next to us was jewelry repair (Anika Fanlo, PharmD, RPh), across the way was lamp repair, and all the while Nathan Dufour kept the crowd entertained! It’s so easy to let your pile of clothes that need to be fixed grow in the back of your closet and eventually get dumped at a thrift store, and we want to cultivate making a practice of caring for what's already in our closets. American Circular Textile Group (ACT) proudly applauds the hard work, leadership and vision by Senators Bill Cassidy and Michael Bennet in their introduction of the the Americas Trade and Investment Act (“Americas Act”) to Congress today. The Americas Act bill includes over $14 billion in incentive-based strategies to catalyze and promote domestic textile reuse and recycling and related businesses, enabling fashion’s circular economy. We are pleased to share that the American Circular Textiles group worked closely with Senators Cassidy and Bennet to support the development of Sections 232 and 199b of the bill and appreciate their support and inclusion of textile circularity. ACT’s press release on today’s historic milestone for circularity in the United States can be found here: https://lnkd.in/emGdyPe9 The "Americas Act" will now be referred to the Senate Finance Committee. ACT urges advocates of this legislation to express their support by leveraging press and social media to raise awareness, and contacting their U.S. Senators and congressional representatives.
