Dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to helping founders solve problems by launching high-growth startups!
关于我们
The REC Innovation Lab is a community business incubator dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to helping founders solve problems by launching high-growth startups. There are many incubator programs in California, but often some groups are left out when it comes to joining them. Graduating students lose access to university-based programs, and many professional incubators are priced too high for entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities. Women and people of color are rarely targeted for inclusion and the focus is typically on later-stage companies that can show traction. The Regional Entrepreneurship Center - REC Innovation Lab at Miramar College was created to change those dynamics by providing accessible resources to entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds so they can follow their passions and turn ideas into startups. We prepare students who need support at the earliest stages of the business and get them ready to launch or transfer into other incubators. Everyone is welcome to apply, but the focus of the REC is on helping people to start scalable, high-growth tech startups. Members receive training on cutting-edge technology such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence, the latest tools, and a broad and diverse network of industry experts to support them, as well as access to free legal, technical, and marketing services needed to launch a business. Each startup has the chance to work with experienced grant-writers, and is given support in writing a crowdfunding campaign, and other financing resources. They also get to work with a professional videographer who creates a dynamic and engaging commercial for each startup. The lab also offers workshops and networking sessions with industry leaders, 150 hours of paid support from coders and developers, all under the guidance of highly experienced mentors. All of this is provided at no cost to the founders except for the $46 per unit fee.

?? Hooray for Community! This past Saturday, Business For Good San Diego and many others attended Food Tank Summit in-studio at KPBS! ?? We’re so proud to highlight Business For Good as a leader in the San Diego food justice and sustainability movement. ?? In 2022, they co-founded the San Diego Food Justice Project (SDFJP) alongside City Heights Community Development Corporation, Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, COOK Alliance, and REC Innovation Lab. Together, driving meaningful change in our community and beyond! ?? #FoodJustice #Sustainability #CommunityLeadership #BusinessForGood
On Saturday, Business For Good attended the invitation-only Food Tank Summit in-studio at KPBS. The intimate event, “What’s the future of the good food movement?”, hosted by Food Tank and San Diego Food + Wine Festival featured over 20 luminaries in the food and beverage industry who are committed to advancing food justice, equity, and sustainability across the U.S. Among the incredible panelists was one of our newest BFG members, renowned chef + sustainability-focused restaurateur Drew Deckman of 31thirtyone by Deckman's in North Park. Attendees also enjoyed welcome remarks from local leaders including Mayor Todd Gloria and a closing fireside chat with legendary chef and farm-to-table pioneer Chef Alice Waters of Chez Panisse Restaurant. Business For Good is a proud leader in the San Diego food justice and sustainability movement. In 2022, we co-founded the San Diego Food Justice Project (SDFJP) with City Heights Community Development Corporation, Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, COOK Alliance, and REC Innovation Lab. The SDFJP was awarded a $1M grant from the State of California to create a training and funding program to help MEHKO owners (micro-enterprise home kitchen operations)—most of whom are at-home parents, caretakers, immigrants with limited English proficiency, and low-income individuals—in San Diego County get the support they need to run a successful food business. As a result, #MEHKO owners in the SDFJP program received micro-grants, business education, technical support, and mentorship that helped bring their dreams to life.
