The Home Depot: Building Stronger Communities, One Project at a Time Last Friday, The Home Depot made a huge impact on the Adamsville community! Their incredible team of volunteers dedicated their time to repairing 2 community gardens and 2 homes, transforming lives and spaces. But that's not all! The Home Depot also awarded Rebuilding Together Atlanta a generous $20,000 grant in addition to taking on the charge of coming back to the gardens quarterly to sustain the work that was done. This funding will empower us to continue our mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives. What did the volunteers do? Community Garden Revitalization: They increased garden capacity, created a food pantry, and beautified the space to help combat food insecurity in the neighborhood. Home Repairs for Seniors: They performed essential home repairs for vulnerable seniors, making their homes safer and more comfortable. We're incredibly grateful for The Home Depot's commitment to community service and their partnership with Rebuilding Together Atlanta. Honoring a Veteran's Service with a Home Renovation! We're excited to announce that we partnered with Altus Group to honor the service of Mr. Vance Smith, a 63-year-old Atlanta native and US Army veteran. After high school, Vance Smith enlisted in the US Army. He?worked in military?headquarters and was?the commander's driver.?While in the Army, Mr. Smith?received?several letters of appreciation from?high-ranking-commanders.?Mr. Vance Smith?received?an?honorable discharge from the US Army. After leaving the Army, over the years, Mr. Smith has worked as?a maintenance person?for several apartment complexes. After dedicating his life to serving our country, Mr. Smith now needs our help to maintain his beloved home. On November 8th, Altus volunteers worked together to make necessary repairs, including roof replacement and interior improvements to Mr. Smith's home. For three years, Whiting-Turner has been a dedicated sponsor of Rebuilding Together Atlanta, making a significant impact on the lives of those in need. Their most recent project involved a heartwarming transformation of a 99-year-old home belonging to Mr. John Tolbert, a 79-year-old Atlanta native. With the help of Whiting-Turner's skilled volunteers and the support of Impact Development Partners employees, we were able to make necessary repairs to ensure Mr. Tolbert's safety and comfort. Together, we installed handrails, siding, a fire extinguisher, and a CO sensor, and even decluttered his yard. These improvements will allow Mr. Tolbert to continue living independently in the home he's known for most of his life. Thank you to Whiting-Turner and Impact Development Partners for their generous support and to all the volunteers who made this project possible. A Veteran’s Home, Repaired and Renewed Rebuilding Together Atlanta is thrilled to partner with Lockheed Martin to provide critical home repairs for veterans like Vance. Vance, a 63-year-old Atlanta native and proud U.S. Army veteran, has dedicated his life to serving his country and community. After a distinguished military career, he has faced challenges in maintaining his 53-year-old home. Thanks to the generous partnership between Rebuilding Together Atlanta and Lockheed Martin, Vance received critical home repairs, including a much-needed roof replacement. on Friday, October 25th, Lockheed Martin employees volunteered at Vance's home to help with interior painting, decluttering, and clothes storage. These renovations will not only improve his quality of life but also allow him to age safely and comfortably in his beloved home. "I have lived in my home for over 5 decades. I cannot imagine living any place else. These free home repair projects will improve my quality of life by one hundred thousand percent. I am so very grateful for the tremendous generosity of Lockheed Martin and its extraordinary employees," said Vance. We're excited to announce our continued partnership with Ferguson to provide critical home repairs for Mrs. Minnie Walton, an 80-year-old Atlanta resident. At the heart of Atlanta's Westside resides a remarkable woman, Mrs. Minnie Walton. Despite her 80 years, Minnie exudes a strength and resilience that belies her age. For the past four decades, she has called this quaint neighborhood her home, a place where she has poured her heart and soul into caring for others. As a retired nurse, Minnie dedicated her life to healing and compassion. However, a debilitating disability forced her to retire early, leaving her to navigate life's challenges on her own. Minnie's home, its aging infrastructure and deteriorating condition have made it increasingly difficult for her to maintain. Without family or children to lean on, Minnie faces the daunting task of keeping her home safe and secure. The neighborhood, once a peaceful haven, has become a victim of rising crime rates. Minnie's home has been targeted by intruders, leaving her feeling vulnerable and alone. To ensure her safety and well-being, Minnie desperately needed essential home repairs. With the help of compassionate organizations and the generous support of Ferguson, this dream is within reach. By providing critical home repairs, such as roof replacement, landscaping, painting, and an exterior security camera installation, our Ferguson volunteers helped to turn Minnie's home into a safe and nurturing sanctuary on Friday, November 1st. The home repairs that were made possible by the Ferguson and its employees will be life-changing for the homeowner served.
