  • This past Saturday, we hosted a yard sale of construction tools, and while the goal was to raise funds, especially in a time when funding feels more volatile than ever, the real impact went beyond dollars. It was a reminder of why community matters. We connected with passersby heading to the farmers market, local residents sharing stories about their homes, and handymen and contractors picking up tools to continue their work in the neighborhoods we serve. Conversations sparked, connections formed, and a simple sale turned into a space where people came together. At the core of what we do is people helping people, whether through home repairs or just creating moments like these that bring us closer. Because strong communities aren’t just built with tools: they’re built with connection. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and supported us!

  • Today is Give Miami Day! Let’s Get to the Point - Hurricanes are getting stronger.?The frequency of major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher) has increased in recent decades due to climate change. These storms bring more intense winds and rainfall, leading to greater destruction. - Miami is one of the most hurricane-prone cities?in the U.S. With over 1.4 million people living in vulnerable coastal areas, our community is at high risk for catastrophic damage. - Even a storm not making direct landfall can cause billions of dollars in flood and wind damage. Hurricane Ian, despite not hitting Miami directly, resulted in?$113 billion?in damages and displaced thousands of families across the state. - 40% of small businesses never reopen?after a natural disaster, and for many families, a single storm can mean the loss of a home they’ve built over generations. This year, all Give Miami Day donations will go directly to our Disaster and [Re]Siliency Program, which focuses on building safer, stronger homes and prioritizing those most at risk. Together, we can help our neighbors prepare and protect their homes for the future. The time to act is now.?Your donation can make a difference—every dollar counts.

  • "This Give Miami Day is one week away, and you have the chance to help build a stronger, safer, and more resilient community. After an intense hurricane season, we are dedicating our efforts to reworking our organization to protect the most vulnerable residents when it comes to disasters. I myself have witnessed the wrath and devastation caused by hurricanes when I was deployed in the reserves to assist with response after Hurricane Ian in 2022. The heartbreak and stories told of those impacted is something I never want to see in our own community. We’ve been fortunate here in Miami—30 years since Hurricane Andrew—but another devastating storm will come. Something I have learned from my studies in Disaster and Emergency Management, is that it may not be this year or the next, but we must prepare as many residents as possible while we have the time and resources. Our mission goes beyond repairing homes—we’re equipping homeowners with the knowledge and resources they need to secure proper insurance and make lasting improvements. A goal of mine has been to revamp our programs to focus on strengthening homes to withstand natural disasters, with an emphasis on helping those most at risk due to their location, income, or the lasting effects of housing inequality. It’s time to stop patching the cracks. Together, we can build a foundation that stands strong against future storms.?Hurricanes are getting stronger, but so are we. Let’s [Re]Build—not just for today, but for generations to come. Donate to our newly created Disaster [Re]Pairs and [Re]Siliency Program this Give Miami Day from?November 17th to 21st. The disasters won’t stop coming, but with your help, we can be prepared and protect our community. Make an impact. Be part of the solution." - Samantha Pryde Manager of Programs and Operations

  • Honoring Veterans by Giving Back! Yesterday, in partnership with The Home Depot, we proudly celebrated Veterans Day by supporting those who served and their families. Over the past two weeks, our team has been hard at work transforming two homes and a vital community facility to show our gratitude. Meet Mr. Tejeda: Enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1981, Mr. Tejeda served as a Medical Corpsman and Damage Control leader on the USS Enterprise. With bravery and quick thinking, he navigated high-stakes operations in the Mediterranean, earning the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. His legacy of resilience is a true inspiration! Meet Ms. Perry: A retired teacher from Cutler Bay and currently battling stage 3 breast cancer, Ms. Perry exemplifies strength and courage. Her oldest daughter, has proudly served in the U.S. Navy for nine years as a Petty Officer First Class. We wore pink in her honor, and, in a moving moment, we discovered her late cousin—a former Home Depot employee—had a special bond with our team captain. ?? Supporting FRH Branch 43, Opa-Locka: Established 50 years ago, the FRH branch in Opa-Locka is deeply tied to the area’s military history, dating back to its WWII-era airport and the 1918 Navy blimp hangar. The branch, led by two dedicated Navy veterans, is revitalizing this historic Post to provide a vibrant gathering space for veterans, including a Hall with a bar, kitchen, and offices, plus a Pavilion ideal for BBQs and events. Located next to a senior veterans' housing facility, the Pavilion is poised to become a welcoming, safe spot for older veterans to gather and enjoy recreational activities. Run entirely by volunteers, FRH Branch 43 relies on member support and donations. As part of The Military Coalition, they tirelessly advocate for Sea Service personnel, providing legislative guidance and career support. With heart and dedication, The Home Depot has helped make these spaces safer, healthier, and more beautiful for our veterans to enjoy. Together, we’re building brighter futures and honoring those who served. Thank you, Home Depot, for making a difference! #VeteransDay #GiveBack #CommunityBuilders #TheHomeDepot #VeteranSupport #Service
