They’re focused on growing their customer base, not on sitting in front of a computer figuring out when to pay bills to optimize cash flow. For them, real-time payments could make a huge difference because it simplifies these decisions, .... Thank you Currency Research for giving me the opportunity to speak at the 2024 Americas Cash Cycle & Payments Seminar. I had the opportunity to partner with Angela Murphy, Ph.D. and Peter Tapling, APRP to provide an update on the state of #FasterPayments #RealTimePayments & #InstantPayments in the United States. A few key themes coming out of that session: ??There is still market confusion over having two #instantpayments systems (#RTP & #FedNow) ??International attendees were very curious about the slow adoption in the US of #instantpayments compared to other countries ??We highlighted the continuing growth of #SameDayACH and #PushtoCard as options available over instant payments ??And a robust discussion around some of the hurdles that still exist to adoption of the instant payments schemes: - lack of standards for #financialinstitution #APIs are stifling business payments - a myriad of consumer platforms that operate in near real-time or “fake” real-time experiences - financial institutions concerns about fraud and the need to modernize their infrastructure to be less batch oriented The seminar also hosted the Payments Beer Nerds? for a roundtable discussion on the hottest topics across the entire #payments and #banking industry (including Cash) and the latest trends in #craftbeer As a bonus I learned about some of the new #innovations in #ATMs and some interesting facts around ATM #fraud and #thefts ?? There are new cassets used in ATM’s that virtually make the #cash useless when those ATMs are tipped over, manipulated or stolen as well as allowing the ATM to be traced ??Not only is the cash marked with a special dye but it is also marked with an infrared blocker that will make the cash useless in vending machines ??♂?Richmond VA, where I live, is one of the top locations for ATMs being stolen or damaged ??For designated high crime areas, if #banks and #merchants aren’t using the smart cassets, the FBI has made it clear it won’t investigate those crimes

A whirlwind few days in Las Vegas at #Money2020USA It started with a trip to Allegiant Stadium to watch #TaylorsTeam (Kansas City Chiefs) take on the Las Vegas Raiders thanks to our friends at Matera. It was great to visit with Carlos Netto, Ross Stewart, Ross Tulloch, Nick Dayno, Mike Connors, Peter Tapling, APRP, Brad Goad, Reed Luhtanen and Sarah Hoisington while enjoying the game, Cyprus Hill and the house band. The Payments Beer Nerds? held an Epic Brewery Crawl in the Arts District. Thank you to the ~30 people who came out for the event for the usual nerding out on #Payments and #Beers. My favorite brewerey was Able Baker Brewing Company I had the privilage of speaking on the changing landscape of payments along side other industry leaders like Elena Casal (The Clearing House) Chris Rennie (Fiserv) with an experately moderated panel by Christine Golden (Q2) With a combined step count of around ~60K steps, some great scheduled meetings, unscheduled meetings and running into so many people during the trip from here to there across the vastness of the Venetian/Palazzo, the trip was well worth it. Some of key topics discussed: ?? #InstantPayments was part of almost every discussion; - I love seeing this as a few years ago everyone was saying why do I need #realtimepaymens, I have #crypto and #blockchain ?? - Great to see the conversation elevate from “Why?” to “How can I leverage Instant/Real-Time Payments to enhance my customer’s life” ??♂? #Fraud continues to be a major area of concern both in traditional payments and new payment types - We need to treat every payment in real-time (even if it clears and settles in batch) so we can leverage real-time fraud detection/prevention tools - The industry needs to share more information and work together to educate our employees and customers alike - A special shout out to Fraud Fight Club and About Fraud for including me in their conversations! ??#CFPBSection1033 The amount of confused faces about the final rule was matched by the number of people who thought they had completely decifered what it said - We still have a long way to go before the first stated implementation date of April 25, 2026 - A number of industry groups will push back on this rule so “final” may be going a bit far - Some industry players have been working to position themselves well to help with compliance ??#ArtificialIntellegence was everywhere, from .AI being part of almost every companies marketing and domain to an actual robot “dog” navigating the halls (with a bunch of technology people following it) - AI is something all companies need to experiment with and understand, especially #financialinstitutions - Most AI integration in products is still only surface level The number of people I ran into in the hallways was equally matched by the number of people I missed seeing. If I missed you at Money20/20 I know I will see you down the road on the conference circuit.

Rebolt Financial Technologies? was founded to help address this exact problem for community based financial institutions. Recognizing it is almost impossible for every #communitybank and #creditunion to invest separately in technology or hire the best and brightest technologists, we felt that #financialinstitutions working together was more powerful. Financial Institutions need to look beyond the cookie cutter services they have been offering, especially in #payments and build products that are focused on meeting the needs of their customers and members in the local communities.
