5 Days in Paradise ???
?
I am forever grateful for the opportunity to spend five days on Necker Island (Sir Richard Branson’s home) with other REBL Dads.
It has taken me a while to put words to my experience, and this probably will not do it justice but prompted by getting the photos the photographer took ??
Here goes ??
?
Originally, I was going alone, but ultimately, circumstances changed (thank you, Jamie Hopkins, truly thankful), and I ended up going on this adventure with Denise.?Thankfully, Denise was with me because after experiencing the Island, I felt I would have had a pit in my stomach if she were not with me.
?
Initially, I said yes because of the location.
How many opportunities would we have to go to spend time on a private island with someone like Richard Branson?
In the end, the adventure was so much more than the location.
?
As I have said prior the people made this experience. Gratitude to H. Adam Holt, CFP?, ChFC? and Derek N.H. Notman, CFP? for putting a group together that was second to none. And Laura Wilson thank you for all you did.
?
The conversations, interactions, and exercises that got me thinking about being a dad and an entrepreneur were amazing.?I learned so much about the importance of dad and being a good one at that.
Not everyone had a life experience like I did growing up or a relationship with their kids like I do today.?Many believe differences divide, but in this case, as in many others, having an open mind can add tremendous value and perspective that you never thought about before, and our conversations had just that.
?
?? Business wise it was invigorating being around other businesspeople who were so passionate about what they did, so much so that their business was almost like another child.?
?
?? Everyone truly seemed to find JOY in what they were building business-wise and their families too.
?
One realization I came away with was I need to disconnect more often, not because I need a break, but because it is during these times of disconnection that some of the best ideas come to the surface.?These ideas will only lead me and our team to better serve the families we work with.?This trip was the first time in a long time, maybe EVER, that I truly disconnected, and the ideas, as well as the passion to help others, were flowing?
?
The only regret I have for going on this trip with these other great people is that the group did not exist when my kids were younger.?Being a dad and family has always been paramount for me because of the loss of my mom and brother-in-law at an early age, but with people like the REBL dad community, I could have leaned into it and learned so much more.
?
? I thought going to Necker Island and spending quality time with the REBL Dads might be a one-and-done, but now I have a whole new perspective.
? I look forward to being an active member of this community, taking trips to disconnect and grow, and seeing amazing places.
There be more posts as I continue to process this
